Collections Image

Luke,

Can you tell me how to fix the Collections image so it has the dynamic slices like the other libraries?

 

It used to be there and I just noticed the other day that is no longer displaying the dynamic slices, I am not sure how long it has been broken like this.

What do you mean reviewed for future release?  It was working now its broken.  Its the only one that just has a missing image icon, The Movies, TV, Music, Etc all are working fine.  If you look at my screen capture above you will see what I mean.

 

I don't understand why this specific one is now broken???

Its not broken... The feature was removed, as I said it has been this way for quite some time

It was removed because the dynamic images do not apply to the parental control /user access rules, for that Luke removed it, I am sure a fix will be done for that then it will be added again.

If that is the case why are the images working fine for all the other libraries? Or are you saying this was a problem unique to Collections?

Then wouldn't it be better to just fix the parental tag on collections? but instead the dynamic sliced were just removed and now that is causing thus issue where one library item looks broken because it's missing the images that all the other libraries have.

I had to remove all my collections in the meantime as it just looked horrible with the broken image and not matching all the other libraries for my users.

 

If you can give an aprox time frame it would be appreciated

Couldn't the option of a tick or toggle button ie auto create or not auto create dynamic images, even select the library you want to make the splice image......ie latest added or changed media or even select specific movies/shows etc to eliminate the reason the dynamic image was removed in the first place.

I agree, just add a checkbox "use dynamic images yes or no"

 

Don't understand why instead of fixing the parental rating check, the dynamic slice image was just removed and now its broken when compared to the other libraries.  

 

Its a huge problem and has been broken now for many months.

Maybe because one could attack this from many different ways.  Another way than your solution would be to have those images all user based and then every user would have their own dynamic images based on what libraries they have access to.  Or another solution, unselect certain folders from providing slices (i.e porn folders) so that people could still have dynamic images without the x-rated slices. 

 

Luke and company may want to create the solution which makes the most people happy and that's why he isn't rushing to any one solution.

 

In the mean time you could always create your own, that's what others have done

I could create my own, if I knew how to use photoshop however it still would not be dynamic and look as awesome as the other libraries which are working fine, its only the collections one that is not working and the only recourse I had was to remove all my collections and no longer use that feature of EMBY because it looked so terrible having a broken thumbnail image next to my Movies, TV, Music

 

Its just sad that instead of fixing a great feature they just remove it and cause all these problems.

 

Anyone know what was the last version of Emby that it was working in?  

Perhaps I can just roll back and stop updating until its fixed.

I'd like to add myself as someone who would also like to see dynamic thumbnail reinstated for Collections.  Frankly, I don't understand the parental control issue since the thumbnail is created from media that I assume already falls under parental control restrictions, but I don't use it so I may be wrong? Sounds like a couple of good suggestions from FrostByte, especially the one based on user library...  I think we can all understand the desire to think the issue thru and come up with the best solution, but when a feature is removed for an issue or if it's broken, I would hope it gets higher priority for reinstatement and this has been open for 3+ months now... Thank you for reconsidering it.

This is still broken, don't understand why it takes months and months to fix a simple issue like this.

 

Shorty send me a PM I can re-enable my collections and try with your image.  I had to remove them from all my users as it looked broken compared to all the other libraries.
