epicfail 2 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I think the problem still exists....i user Emby in Docker on OMV3. Emby Server version is 3.2.30.0 There are no extrafanarts, nfo´s ect for artists saved in the folder of the artist itself. They are all /config/metadata/artists/....... Any help on this?
Luke 42078 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 This is by design because it can be difficult to identify artist folders while still supporting lots of different folder structures at the same time.
epicfail 2 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 So you say that this all looks right for music? See screens pls
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Sorry those images are to small to see anything. But as Luke mentioned this is the new way. So your only option is to manually move info from metadata folder to your artist folder if that is what you want. It is a little manual work but it can be done, like this example of Blake Shelton. Moved metadata from metadata\artists to artist folder.
cw-kid 192 Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 (edited) But does moving the metadata files from the local servers C:\ drive metadata\artists path to your D:\music\artist\ path get rid of the duplicated artist in the Emby views? Or if you just have one artist entry listed but its path for Info is pointing to the local server metadata path and not to your music path, would it then change the path to be your music\artist path? I still have some duplicated Album Artists in Emby and cant get rid of them no matter what I try. However recently I have been cleaning up my track artist tag metadata on my compilation / various artist albums. Ensuring the track artist name is the same as on musicbrainz and that the capitalisation in their name is correct and this has removed some duplicated and incorrect artists after doing a full library scan. Emby seems very picky on capitalisation say A-Ha vs the correct a-ha. I am trying to ensure that my album artist tags and the track artist tags on compilation albums are identical and the same and as I say this has helped somewhat and removed some duplicated / incorrect artist entries from the database. But for some album artists like A-Ha and 10CC which should be 10cc even after correcting every single metadata tag in the files on both studio albums and compilation albums the "incorrect" duplicated artist 10CC pointing to the local server metadata path does simply not go away. So I am left with an artist called 10CC and an artist called 10cc. Edited September 11, 2017 by cw-kid
Luke 42078 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Just FYI - that kind of manual moving from metadata to library is untested by the Emby team so we can't really predict what the outcome is going to be.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I would have to test agin, but depending on the situation some duplication issues have required a database rebuild.
cw-kid 192 Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 (edited) I think historically my main problem with this has been that my studio album artist metadata was pretty clean and correct. But on the various artist compilation albums the track artist tags were not so clean / correct or had slightly different capitalisation. This causes the duplicated artists in Emby I think. I've never had these issues before though in Windows Media Center or native Kodi for the most part, certainly not on album artists, I never had duplicates in those systems because of different capitalisation on the tags. This seems to be the root of the problem in my case I believe. I am slowing going through the track artist tags on the compilation albums which is a massive task but so far it has helped in Emby after doing a full library scan and then looking in the music library in the web GUI and then going to the artist view. I can see things are changing and incorrect or duplicated artists have then gone. But in the album artists view as I mentioned I have a few stuborn artists that I simply cannot get rid of. Now I am wondering if this is because for some of them I manually deleted their folder and metadata files from the servers C: drive metadata path. But if you select Edit Info on them it still points to that path that now doesn't exist. If I try to refresh the metadata on these artists it does not recreate their folder / files. So I've tried manually recreating their folder and putting back in the artist.nfo file. In the hope the library scan will then see all my tags are now correct and remove the duplicated one that is pointing to the servers local C: drive path. But for several album artists like this they now never go away. And all of these are capitalisation related like 10CC vs 10cc. Edited September 11, 2017 by cw-kid
cw-kid 192 Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 Ideally this is how I'd want it to work, which for the most part it does or it use too anyway. 1. That all compilation artists that you do not have any studio albums for, their metadata files are stored locally on the servers C:\ drive in the Emby servers metadata\artists folder. This is the case and seems to be how that works which is fine. 2. And for your album artists all their artwork and metadata files should be stored in the media folders, where the mp3 files are located. Like D:\Music\Artistname and for albums in D:\Music\Artistname\Albumname. I've added a few new artists and even if I add a blank artist.nfo file in to their D:\Music\Artistname folder Emby still seems to put their metadata locally instead on the C:\ drive which is definitely not correct for advanced users that have always had correct folder structures and metadata files stored along side their media files. I need to test this again to be 100% sure however, next time I add a brand new artist, but for the last two attempts I remember that's what seemed to happened and the metadata files and the path in Emby when you select Edit Info are pointing locally to the Emby servers C:\ drive metadata path.
epicfail 2 Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Sry for the tiny pics...didn´t notice So if this is the new way i´m good with it..... Altough i would find it better if all artworks would be stored where the media files are....like on movies and tv shows. And this behaviour in Metadata Manager is also normal...is it? See backdrop and main picture are missing... Edited September 12, 2017 by epicfail
cw-kid 192 Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 Hi @@Luke There seems to be issues with the override when using the blank artist.nfo file. It seems to work sometimes but not others ? I added a brand new artist. I created a new folder on the server on D:\Music\FKA twigs and created a blank artist.nfo file in this folder. After doing this, I then copied in the new albums, in to the new artists folder. All metadata and embedded album artwork images were checked and corrected before placing them in to the "watched" folder. Sat back and let Emby do its thing. After Emby had detected the new music content, looking in the web GUI for this new artist and selecting the Edit Info option and looking at the path its pointing to \\WHS\Music\FKA twigs and the nfo files and the artwork files generated by Emby have been stored in the artists folder so this has worked OK this time. However I then added a second brand new artist and did exactly the same thing again, but this time its put the metadata locally on the servers C:\ drive metadata path. C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\metadata\artists\Charli XCX I then added a third brand new artist in the same manner. However this time after creating the blank artist.nfo file I waited maybe 5 minutes before then moving the artists album in to their artist folder. I actually saw this time a desktop notification popup saying Emby had found a new artist called Sky Ferreira, this was before I had moved the mp3 files in to place. Looking at the path in the Edit Info option its \\whs\Music\Sky Ferreira so it has worked correctly for this third artist but not for the second artist. So this seems to be a timing issue? Seems you have to wait awhile after creating the blank artist.nfo file before moving over the albums / files to the artists folder etc. So how to move the metadata now for the second artist, to the main music shared folder \ artists folder ??? Thanks.
cw-kid 192 Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Interesting sometime later I went back and re-checked the second artist Charli XCX, the one that Emby put the metadata files for on the local servers C:\ drive. Now when I go to Edit Info the path has changed to \\whs\Music\Charli XCX and the metadata files are now in this folder instead. And I can no longer see a folder for her under: C:Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\metadata\artists So it seems to have corrected itself somehow. Only thing I did was play the album in native Kodi on the HTPC and I also set off a full library scan in Emby to pick up some changes for other different artists I have edited the metadata tags for. I can only assume that the library scan then detected the still blank artist.nfo file in the \\whs\Music\Charli XCX folder and then decided to move the local metadata up to the music shared folder. Riggs 312 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Hi, I have a similar problem and I need some help. Emby do not put the artwork into the folders. No, no permission problems. Yes, I do a refresh of the complete music library. I did a fresh install one week ago (fresh install= install Emby from 0 without use any back-up) The first scan it does not work, second attempt no either, nada. That's how looks the directories. No images. Nada. In this case "Aerosmith" directory. Library was setup to put the artworks into the folders in the same way that Emby do for movies. No work for music. Thanks in advance.
Riggs 312 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 I forgot. This is how looks Aerosmith on Emby. Of course, the images are not INTO the media folders. I want to have the images there to not use a lot of resources each time that i need rebuild Emby for any reason. Thanks.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 AlbumArtist folders do not get images saved with the media - Albums do This was changed a long time ago - promised to come back at some point but dont hold your breath on it being soon 1

Riggs 312 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Is funny, if I add an image folder.jpg is used by Emby on the folders view. Just for your records
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 thats not related although makes the folder view better 1
