Emby Server service won't start, can't update, can't deinstall

My Emby server seems to have crashed completely this morning. 

1.  The service stopped and won't start (error 1053; the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion). 

2. Tried downloading and installing latest update (version 3.0.5931).  That fails with Error: Could not delete previous backup directory.  System.UnauthorizedAccessException Access to path 'CommonIO.dll' is denied.

3.  Tried de-installing Emby Server so I could re-install it from scratch.  That fails with the error: MediaBrowser.Uninstaller has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

I'm not techie enough to dig into log files and such.  Any help on how to fix this issue would sure be appreciated.

Hi, generally the windows service is a little more complicated than the tray icon. I would try running it from the windows start menu, which will launch the tray icon version of Emby server. Once that is back up and running, then you can try the windows background service again.

I had a similar problem where the service had crashed and would not completely stop. I followed these instructions https://support.4it.com.au/article/how-to-kill-a-windows-service-which-is-stuck-at-stopping/ to kill the process, then I was able to restart normally.
