Smasher 3 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Hi. I just started testing Emby this weekend (all weekend), to see how it works, what it can and cannot do. (I'm use to Kodi MySQL) But liking it so far I have not YET bought Premiere. My test setup right now : Windows computer running Emby server, Synology NAS with movies. And testing clients are Kodi with Emby plugin. I have a complete Synology CLONE, standing at some family members, for backup. They also have a windows computer/server. Would it be possible to install Emby server at their windows computer, and make them stream movies from the Synology Clone, instead of streaming via internet from my Server/NAS? And keep the movie database in sync, if I make some changes, movie renaming, manual box-set etc. And when I buy Emby Premiere, can that be activated on both my windows computer, and on their windows computer/server. Or do I need to buy 2 subscriptions for that? Best regards.
Ponyo 22 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 As far as I know you can't currently sync two Emby servers. I thought about doing something similar to you for my parents. Something that might work is periodically copying your Emby database to that of the other server. I don't know the Emby database structure but doing so probably means the other server also gets your watched statuses etc. The only other way would be to write a script to compare the two databases and only copy the fields you want. I think you can use Emby Premiere for all your devices but I believe the current activation method requires every app/device you want to active to be in the same LAN. The team is working on other activation methods I believe.
Smasher 3 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Thanks for the answer. So a solution we be something like : install Emby server on 1 computer, scan all movies and make custom changes.. Then copy "emby server" folder to computer 2, and they are the same. I think most of the new movies added, would not need custom changes. So auto-update would do the trick. The user database, don't have to be the same either. Looking forward for the new/other activation methods then
Smasher 3 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Oooh, 1 more thing. Not quite sure yet, if I'll jump from kodi/mysql to Emby, or only make that available for "guest" outside the LAN network. But there is no way, to import your watched movies/tv-shows status, right?
Luke 42078 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 In the plugin catalog we have a backup and restore plugin that can help with this.
bluemonkey07 590 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) ..or use trakt (Do you mean import from kodi ?or from emby to emby to keep them in sync?) Edited April 25, 2016 by Vidman
Luke 42078 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 emby to emby, since it sounds like he wants identical user accounts and other things beyond just watched data.
bluemonkey07 590 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) That's what i was trying to confirm from Smasher re watched status importing since he also mentioned coming from kodi to emby Sorry for the confusion in my attempt to clarify Edited April 25, 2016 by Vidman
Smasher 3 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Yeah, maybe I should have made a new thread for my second question in #4 But original question, was to keep 2 emby servers in sync, so I can control which users stream from which server (Some users from server 1, and some users from server 2) Second question in post #4 was actually, to migrate from Kodi's MySQL to Emby, like Vidman thought.
ebr 16176 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 On your original question - there is nothing in the Emby System that will facilitate this. You would need external file syncing tools and or manage it separately. For importing playstates, you could potentially use Trakt on both systems to facilitate that.

Okay, no problem.. what about if I buy premiere, can that be installed on 2 windows computers, on different locations, or do I have to buy 2 subscriptions?

So yea there is a couple of ways1.trakt as i already mentioned 2.if you are not ocd about your media folders you can choose to export your kodi library as individual files which will save .nfo files to your media folders which are compatible with Emby (i think emby still recommends storing metadata in your media folders as well.. .although it's not necessary ) Edited April 25, 2016 by Vidman
