Yeah I keep getting the random shutdowns on 5934 too:

2016-05-05 03:45:01.7432 Info Main: Found a duplicate process. Giving it time to exit.
2016-05-05 03:45:16.7496 Info Main: The duplicate process did not exit.
2016-05-05 03:45:16.7496 Info Main: Shutting down because another instance of Media Browser Server is already running.

Check previous logs, and it seems like it's having issues killing ffmpeg like the rest:

2016-05-05 03:45:01.0832 Info MediaEncoder: Killing ffmpeg process
2016-05-05 03:45:01.0832 Error MediaEncoder: Error sending q command to process
2016-05-05 03:45:01.0832 Error MediaEncoder: Error in WaitForExit
2016-05-05 03:45:01.0932 Error MediaEncoder: Error killing process

Should I wait for official update, or update to beta and test? If wait, i'll just write a powershell that will monitor Emby and restart as needed.

Now I'm running Version 3.0.5957.0.. and it STILL has this issue.  Also.. I've now lost the ability to manually start a scheduled task (there's no little triangle arrow like there used to be).

Thank you for testing pre-release versions.

No problem.  :)  Just hoping each new update will have the fix.

Another quick update....

Got home from work today, saw a new update was available.  Installed the update.  Emby said it needed to restart (like always).  I clicked the button then sat and waited while watching the Task Manager in Windows.  Emby Server's tasks never ended, the taskbar icon (by the clock) never went away, and a new instance NEVER started.  It just sat there like I never clicked anything.  There is a multi-colored spinning circle on the webpage (like a "standby" or "busy" icon) but nothing happened.

This is going from Version 3.0.5967.0 up to MBServer (3.0.5968).

I clicked it a second time (the "restart" button).  The icon in the taskbar disappeared, but while watching the Task Manager, the "Emby Server" Background Process never ended, and a new one never started.  I tried to refresh the page, and got an "Unable to connect" error (usually means the website is down).  Checked the Task Manager one last time, and now the task is gone.  I manually restarted Emby Server (like I have been having to do since the start of this issue).  Once the banner finished loading, I refreshed the webpage again.  It now shows I'm running Version 3.0.5968.0.

"Knock on Wood"

I think it's fixed!  Since I'm having trouble with the Scheduled Tasks not running, I was taking the steps I mentioned in that thread to update to Version 3.0.5970.0.  Once it had completely installed the update, I clicked restart.  However, my screen was all kinda screwy and I couldn't use the restart button from the website.  I ended up right clicking the taskbar icon and clicking restart from there.  I was watching the Task Manager like always.  It seemed to instantly bring up a 2nd instance, but almost as quickly it shut them both down.  Then about 3-5 seconds later the "Loading" screen appeared, and Emby was up and running!  So at least it's a step in the right direction!  There's an update to my Rotten Tomatoes plugin, so I'm going to install that and see if Emby restarts like it should again.

...

Crap. Figures... so the previous version (3.0.5968) was working, but now the Version 3.0.5970.0 is doing it again.  Or perhaps it was because I used the taskbar icon?  I'm going to test that by just restarting it again without installing anything.   ........  Ok, now that I had to restart it manually.. it's not starting!  The "loading" screen is just sitting there.  I had to force close it.  Restarting it still does the same thing..  I'm rebooting the computer now.

...

Ok, confirmed it's still not working.  I tested 3 different times, using the Task Icon to restart and the website's.  The restart of the server still causes 2 instances to run, the 2nd crashing because the 1st instance didn't stop, then the 1st instance either fails to end requiring a manual end task, or it stops finally after 5-10 minutes.  In either case, Emby never "restarts" automatically, requiring a manual launch.

I remember running Emby as a Service rather than using a Tray Icon.  Perhaps there's a problem with the 2 conflicting?  I just double checked, and the Emby Server Service is Disabled.  Now that I'm thinking about it, is the Tray Icon version dependent on the service in any way?  Should I have the service enabled but not set to automatically run?  Another thing I'm thinking.. maybe the problem is related to the Tray Icon in general, and using it as a Service might work?  I'm trying to remember why I switched to using the Tray Icon method.  I think it had to do with the automatic restart scheduled task Plugin I had installed to help with automatic updates.  Since this isn't working at all now, maybe I should just disregard that and try going back to the Service Mode... what do you think?

I just fixed this today. I uninstalled my hyperv VSwitch and suddenly it works perfectly.

I do not have this installed so your fix is not a universal solution.

This won't help me either for the same reason.

I've updated again and still have this problem.

i get this occasionally and I think it is caused by leaving a client, in my case ET (new version), open.  With ET closed I get the Dev updates and they either install themselves or I can click on 'restart' in the web browser and everything is OK. If however ET is running, clicking restart closes the server but it will not restart until I close ET or manually re-launch it.

Are you referring to ET being Emby Theater?  If so, I don't use that.  Plus, we already experimented with disconnecting all clients.  I even connected directly to the server (mouse and monitor) with the network cables unplugged and it still fails to properly shut down the server before a new one starts.
