Sorry but wtf.. you force updates on us and performance goes down the tubes 50%, then you force another update and now videos will not even play on a local machine .. wth is going on?! Yes I am going off on a rant. but only because things went from working fine for months to not working AT ALL after a forced update. And by forced I mean release quality update that should have been tested before being released. I would love to think its just my machine, something *I* did.. but when I have literally NOT changed anything in the last couple days since the last update and now after an update nothing works locally.. I don't see this as a problem *I* caused. Can someone please fix this? I was |-| close to paying because I thought you finally got it working right and got things together.. then I get hit with nothing playing AT ALL.. I mean come on.. I had my finger on the button to click PAY .. and I can't PLAY.  Please test releases before they are released.. and yeah I am pissed off.. my media worked 2 hours ago, after an update I can't watch jack. How would YOU feel in my position?!

If you wanna play the whole "we have no idea" card.. so be it, I can go the whole route .. do I think you are hearing about this for the first time.. No, honestly I do not.

 

Version 3.0.5931.0 Release Version of Emby Server on Win 10 x64.

 

Everything was fine.. after last update it went to hell.. Now NOTHING plays.

And yes.. I am ticked off.. but I already said that.. how an update borks the entire system I just do not understand. It's not like I had issues before.. everything was fine, I accepted and update and now nothing works. So sorry if I am sounding like the usual prick I sound like.. but this was the one night I was trying to relax after having the most stressful month of my life.. and now I cant even watch tv ONLY because i ACCEPTED AN UPDATE

So you're playing with the web client? what browser and version?

I normally play from the web client to the Emby "Store" version of the app.. the "original One".. not the newer one.. after some troubleshooting.. and installing codecs.. (K-Lite standard) .. which was not apparently necessary.. but I figured why not.. I can play in the web client.. but suddenly the play TO my Emby APP is no longer working. No video types work, MKV or MP4, etc..  --- I CAN still play in the web app directly from the Emby Server.. I have not used that in a VERY long time, but at this point its that or manually playing each file in a stand alone video player..  .. Anyways.. Sorry if I am over reacting.. but if you were in my life for 5 mins and wanted 30 mins of escape, you would understand why I am admit-idly freaking out.  This is my one escape.. and its not working like it was 2 hours ago .. and I didn't fk it up.. all I did was upgrade.

Btw.. as for versions.. cant find that info.. god bless windows 10 bullcrap.. but its the 7Illusions Emby app.. most recent version that I am attempting to play that.. that suddenly says I cannot play ANY file.. FROM the Emby Server / Service (tried both) of the most recent Release version. Before I installed ANY codec packs.. & After installing k-Lite Standard most recent.. still no good. The ONLY thing that DOES work .. is stand alone players or the Web interface directly in FIrefox.. which is NOT my method for playing, normally.

Can you copy and paste the media info of that item in the web client and provide that here? thanks.

Sorry not sure what you want copied and pasted.. I am getting a message in the APP telling me I cannot play the media file.. there is nothing to copy / paste and I already included a log file from the server. If there is something else you need, or another log file I did not include, let me know.. especially if you have a path to it.. I just dont understand how an update broke my paid app from working for all file types.. if it was JUST mkv .. I could at least understand.. but seeing as mkv is the new standard in the scene.. i am hoping mkv playback improves also..  anyways.. just being able to play anything TO the emby app again would be a step forward at this point.. and sorry Luke.. It always seems to be you listening to me go off.. I am sorry for that. :(

 

I have tried 15 files.. its not any specific file.. its EVERY file.

In this case, the app is actually just trying to direct play an mkv. There's no transcoding involved. So either it's direct playing when it shouldn't, or something is going on in the app or on your machine. That's why i want to see the media info from the detail screen of the web client for that particular item.

But its not just MKV.. its .. MP4 .. its .AVI.. so what log files so you need to see to help figure this out? I am guessing its NOT just the server log that I included?

do you have another machine available by chance to install the app and test on?

 

Keep in mind - the windows store app uses Microsoft supplied video components. These rely on Media Foundation. One of the things to be aware of is that this is susceptible to being disrupted by tweaking certain things on your system or installing certain codec packs (some of them disable Media Foundation).

 

Unfortunately this situation can be very bad for us because users get the impression that there's something wrong with the app. We don't know yet that that is your problem, but I would suggest making sure nothing has tampered with Media Foundation on your system.

Yeah but Luke.. everything worked fine on a "recovered" win10 install.. until the last update for Emby.. I did that update tonight.. and suddenly nothing plays.. *I* did not even use my pc today, so I know I wasnt drunk and fking around with stuff.. it has to be the update.. and I had NO codec packs installed until AFTER this did not work.. I was trying to NOT install anything I did not need.. so.. maybe its not the app, maybe its not the server.. but damn if it aint the "talking" between the server and the app cause something crapped out.. .. I wish it was something I did.. but I was asleep all day.. :P

Re-reading your post.. it seems like you are telling me I could have "fked" up my media foundation.. however the ONLY change .. and I STRESS this issue.. the ONLY CHANGE was installing an EMBY UPDATE to the SERVER .. before everything went to hell. The ONLY reason I went AFTER that issue to get a codec pack.. was because I want to be sure I can play my videos without a functional Emby. I get your position.. but please do not try to focus this onto me .. I changed nothing except acceping an Emby Update before I had issues. I "Get" it.. focus the blame anywhere else.. but I provided you a chance to look at my system first hand.. I assume you are a pro and you can spot anything in 2 minutes vs my 120 minutes trying to find whatever u want to see. If you do not want to do that, so be it, but please don't tell me its because I messed up the media foundation... when all I did was update via Emby. :(

Hey,

     Not sure if this is the same problem but i am having a similar problem when playing most movies and some tv episodes, i have narrowed it down to H264 level 4.0 and above. Any of the video files with these H264 levels have stopped working on all devices (Roku, Android, Windows IE and Emby Home Theatre Legacy).

The error message says no compatible streams and the log file says that it could not determine the bitrate for the files but does say the right info on the web manager.

All files are mp4.

If this is unrelated please just ask and i will report this as a new case.

Sorry, Just found that my local trailers are the things stopping all the movies from playing, they show up home page of Emby windows store app and when i cancel them the movie starts to play.

Wasn't there a ffmpeg update in a recent release? Maybe this is the issue?

Are there transcode logs created?

Oh I read the complete thread but must missed it. He wrote something about the used containers but never told which video codec was used.

FYI.. Its solved for now, but yes, it was multiple container types, multiple files, and I can only assume some do and didnt transcode.. but no worries, a couple of reboots and whatever else later its working again.

Thanks for putting up with me.. no joke, was literally the worst day ever.. I am just glad a monitor didn't go out the window at that point, but for the most part things are back to normal. I DO still think the communication / playback between Server / 7Illusions App needs a little fine tuning.. to keep it playing no matter what.. ie. mine stops video once in awhile, but other players keep on going.  .. But I havn't tracked that down yet.  Anyways, thanks for not just banning me for being a jackarse when it hits the fan.
