Using Collections for Parental Control

I have 2 library locations - one for Movies and one for TV Shows - that include all content.  I also have 2 user accounts - one for me and one for the kids.  I would like to have the kids account only see movies and tv shows that I manually select and I currently have them set up in a single collection so that Emby for Kodi can easily categorize them.

However using a device like the ATV4 - where user accounts would be a preferable way to exclude content - I cannot seem to limit access other than marking all the movies/shows I don't want them to see with tags for exclusion (really cumbersome because I have to remember to tag every new movie that is not a kids movie for hundreds of movies/shows).

I also don't want to set up multiple libraries to separate kids from grown-up content mostly because we have recordings set up to auto-organize into a specific location and there is not a way to have multiple locations for this.

Is it possible to limit a particular user account to content contained only in a specific collection?

If not - a feature request maybe?

I am not sure about collections, but you may want to look at the custom rating for each series and movie.

You could then limit the kids user profile to only view items rated G (for example) and custom rate all their media items G.

But, you would have to monitor new items when you add them (which is what you're presumably trying to avoid..).

Looks like that will be a good work around!  Thanks Chef.

I physically (probably not the right word) separate the TV and movies I want my niece to see into separate folders and create separate libraries that she only has access to. To me the only difference is I see separate folders for kids to and movies but they get merged in the proper views

That's what I do as well.  Works the best for keeping my daughter's shows out of my way.  Then normal parental control manages everything else she sees.

One thing to keep in mind is that some movies (ie. Mission Impossible 1) are strangely rated as G (at least in Canada it is). So watch out, there maybe a couple surprise titles which appear in libraries.

Keeping a separate physical location for media files is also a good idea.

And that's why I do what I do, Emby handles this fine but the metadata is not consistent
