roywood 5 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) I am trying to use an older laptop with linuxlite as my emby server. I have a portable hard drive connected to my router and set up a network share using samba. My linux computer can access the drive through the home folder but when I try to point emby to this as the location of my movie files I get an error. I have tried adding it as smb://192.168.*.**/folder/folder (as an example.) I'm a bit of a noob and would appreciate any help. Edited April 19, 2016 by roywood
Luke 42077 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Hi there, welcome. What kind of error do you get? Please see how to report a problem. Thanks!
roywood 5 Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 Error that emby cannot locate the location. Make sure I put it in correctly or that it has read permission (or something similar I've turned the computer off) Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

You will need to 'mount' the drive on the linux box so that Emby can see it.....this is a link to an Ubuntu thread explaining how to do this as the working principles are the same for linux distros. So I ran the first command and got this error. Keep going? linuxlite@linuxlite-MT6451:~$ sudo apt-get install smbfs [sudo] password for linuxlite: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package smbfs is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source However the following packages replace it: cifs-utils E: Package 'smbfs' has no installation candidate
roywood 5 Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Yeah this doesn't seem to be working at all for me. I tried the next two commands and got: linuxlite@linuxlite-MT6451:~$ sudo mkdir /media/serverlinuxlite@linuxlite-MT6451:~$ sudo gedit /root/.cifscredentialssudo: gedit: command not foundlinuxlite@linuxlite-MT6451:~$
geaves 13 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 If I'm right samba is already installed, within the linuxlite online manual there is this which should help, however you'll need to do some reading as that manual I think requires a credentials file, which I don't use. The Linuxlite website also have their own support forum which would be more helpful, this is not an Emby problem, it's just getting that drive to 'automount' when your computer starts so that Emby can access it.

OK I got it mounted. I couldn't get my android emby client connected even though it saw the server. Clicked on it and after a few seconds it said could not connect make sure active. I was able to connect with emby connect on Firefox on same computer the server is installed on. Any ideas? Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
geaves 13 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Well at least that's part one complete but as far as Android is concerned I can't help, either PC's, iOS, Xbox, or Kodi here. I would suggest asking in the Android section on here.
