Scan Media Library - Downloading Metadata for Missing TV Episodes for Seasons Not in Library

A few days ago, I added a folder to my TV Shows library for "The Amazing Race" containing a single folder for the latest season (Season 28).  After doing so, the library scan seemed to take a lot longer than normal (3minutes instead of 48seconds).  This was the case for every subsequent library scan as well.  When I looked in the log file, I found multiple entries indicating that Emby failed to download metadata from "omdbapi.com" for episodes of The Amazing Race in Seasons 1 through 27.  This is with there only being a folder in the series folder for Season 28.  I should point out that Emby is exhibiting this behaviour with the option to download information for missing episodes in a season being disabled in the user profile.

For all other series, Emby appears to be downloading episode metadata only for the seasons that are in my library.  It is only for The Amazing Race that Emby is reaching back in time to get episode information for all seasons of the show.  As a test, I added three other long running reality series (Survivor Season 32, Big Brother Season 18, The Apprentice Season 15) to my library.  Each series folder contained a folder for the most recent season.  Interestingly, Emby tried to download metadata for all missing episodes in past seasons for these series as well.

I first noticed this while running Beta Version 3.0.5936.0 of Emby.  But Version 3.0.5913.0 of Emby on my Synology NAS is doing the same thing.  I'm not sure if it will be useful given the nature of this problem, but I've attached a log file with the failed library scan events just in case.

Based on the library scan that happened immediately after the update, this does not seem to be happening in Emby Synology Version 3.0.5930.0 that went live earlier tonight.  I'll do some testing to make sure that the issue is fixed before marking it as resolved.

Check your metadata settings and uncheck the Open Movie Database provider. It's off by default and can cause scans to take a little longer.

Thanks for the feedback.  I did have the Open Movie Database provider enabled.  I will disable it from this point forward.  I'm still confused as to why not disabling this option would result in Emby attempting to download Series episode metadata for seasons that are not in my library.  After the recent Synology Emby Version 3.0.5930.0 update, this does not seem to happen even with the Open Movie Database provider enabled.

It's something that we can improve but that's what you need to do for now

Again, thanks for the input Luke.  I really do appreciate everything you guys do.  I can confirm that removing the Open Movie Database as a metadata provider for TV Series Episodes partially addresses the issue.  Scan times were much faster after doing so.  But Emby still tries to obtain the metadata for past season missing episodes not in my library from TMDb.org.  I had to remove it as a metadata provider as well to fully resolve the issue.  After doing so, scan times went from 15minutes to 30seconds.

FYI, I was incorrect about the issue being resolved in Synology Emby Version 3.0.5930.0.  When I checked the logs tonight after clearing the database, the entries for failed metadata downloads were still present.
