Movies not detected correctly

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this issue concerns Server version  3.0.5105.17830.

I have some box sets and movies that seem to not be detected as TYPE Movie, but instead as a folder, and the .avi as a image. It has no external id in the metadata manager for me to edit, and I see no way to add one. I have compared this box set to others that are working perfectly and I can find no difference. I have tried removing all metadata files and graphics, and using refresh but it still gets detected as a folder instead of a movie.

Any ideas how I can get these detected right or fix the problem?

Below is a screenshot showing a box set for back to the future which is a problem child Im trying to fix, and also a batman box set which is correct. Both box sets have the exact same folder structure, which is the recommended structure, so I am at a loss...

Thanks,

kingfenix

can you post a screenshot of the contents of the folder of the problem box set

would it be possible to request a feature to manuall add external id's? then the server could see those and resolve this itself?

Posted

no that's not happening. the server has to understand that it's a movie or boxset based on the file structure, before you get to the point of putting an id in.

if you pull one of those movies out of the boxset and move it to your general movie area, does the movie work as expected? can you try that? Thanks.

ok, no the stand alone movie is also wrong, and has the "image" icon for type instead of movie one...so I guess boxset has nothing to do with the issue.

is the avi file marked hidden by any chance

Posted

so i'm guessing it's completely unplayable in the web client?

I fixed one movie...what I did was create a new folder, move the avi into it and let it redownload new metadata for it

it seems to have been something about the folder itself containing the individual movie.

no, it plays in the web client, the only real problems that it caused was coverart could not create good box set covers, and the individual movies were not showing all the info for the movies at all....just a very basic set of info. recreating the folder seems to solve it.

when you expand those nodes under each movie what is there?

ok here is a picture, showing folder properties, the one on the left is the newly created folder that is now detected properly and works, the one on the right, is part II and is still not fixed....I can not see any detectable difference between these folders???? very strange....

Here is fully expanded current situation.....you can see the first movie is now fixed....the other two are not (purposely leaving them broken)

the problem is something about the folder containing the individual movies, but damned if I see what it is. all securities and settings are identical

I have both mac and windows....could there be some attribute or folder setting thats hidden from view?

Posted

oh..doesn't mac os create some placeholder files

Posted

yeah, but I would see them...also i have set my mac to not create them anyway.

Posted

found the problem....there was a hidden file inside the folders of the problem movies....

the hidden files in question all start with ._ and then the movie file name....

for example....

._Back to the future II (1989).mkv

these files, seem to be what was messing up the works....I did a search and removed them all, and now all is well. I have no idea where these files came from though. Possibly media center master?

aren't those mac ds store files

Posted

ok apparently these ._ files are created by mac os to store extra data for files....

Can you make all facets of the server ignore any file beginning with "._" without the quotes...some googling reveals that there is no way to keep mac from creating these.

thanks,

best I can tell is they are similar to ds store files yes....but having them in movie folders are causing the server to detect those 4k files instead of the movie I think? or possible even treat it as a multi file movie since there is two files with mkv extensions in the folder....

one real one and one ._

Posted

every single ._ file was 4K in size.....possibly make the server ignore detecting any file under 5K in size as a video/move/tv show etc....

Posted

personally I was happy to just delete all my ._ files....other may not be???

but if the server ignore them, problem solved....
