mit3gt 6 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 (edited) Hello. I have been using emby for a while now using http/8096 outside of my network and everything works fine. I am now trying to get https/8920 set up for playback outside of my network and I am noticing some limitations. Hopefully someone can help me out. Am I correct in saying that https will not work on an android app without a purchased cert? Or will it? I am using the self-signed certificate through emby. What I am experiencing now is on a desktop browser I can connect and play everything fine via https. On a mobile android phone I can connect via a browser to the dashboard and see all the art but I get an error when trying to play anything. Using the Emby app on the android phone I cannot even connect (manually or through emby connect). I guess my question is before I go off and try to get this all to work using a purchased cert, I want to make sure all my devices I am using outside my network will work even if I get a purchased cert working (which is a BIG if). Here is a list of my devices that would require https outside my network: Chromecast FireTV Stick So, if these 2 devices will work using https, Could someone please help me out with getting a purchased cert set up on a windows 7 machine? I have read through the forums on the subject but I am struggling to wrap my head around all of it. Thanks! Edited April 15, 2016 by mit3gt
ThermoDust 12 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 The hardest part is getting the certificate in pfx format. That you'll need to install openssl for windows and then convert it. Unless the certificate provider sells it in pfx form, mine didn't.
