Stream stops playback - reboot required to get stream to work again.

I have an issue as of late that prevents playback on my mobile device. What I have noticed is the video will resume without issue but then after a little bit of playback(30-60 seconds) FFMPEG is closed and the video stops.

Only way I have been able to get it to playback and not crash is to shut down the service and start it again(turn emby off and on).

what device and browser is this? it's transcoding to mp4 which looks like an old version of internet explorer. the user agent in the logs looks like more windows media player than a web browser. it is quite possibly something we just don't support.

ok i see in the other logs it's ie11 mobile. you can try reducing the in-app bitrate to something really low. apart from that i would just use the emby windows phone app, or upgrade the device to windows 10 if you can because i am testing Edge mobile heavily. IE 11, particularly IE11 mobile is not an easy platform to work with. Now that Microsoft has moved on from it I would suggest you do the same, or use the Emby app.

fyi, i have a lumia 550 for testing running windows 10 with edge mobile and the emby app is performing well on it.

Bump. Any ideas on why this is happening? Could it be due to SSL? Custom domain?

I'm not able to reproduce but certainly trying over HTTP would be a useful test

Do I have to disable anything on server to allow this? As it states external URL as the encrypted one.

Okay. Figured it out. Tried it without SSL and the same issue is happening.

New issue / similar issue? Just tried to resume a video on Edge Windows 10 Mobile (just upgraded to 218 and formatted the phone). I normally get the error "There was an error playing the video" but this time it looked as if it was loading as it gave the backdrop picture and the video player came up just like you'd see on Windows 10 desktop. However, the video never started and when you hit play on the player nothing happened. I checked the server and in task manager I saw ffmpeg was running. I also noticed there was a trans-coding log. Just no actual playback started.

This isn't really the Edge browser, I think that is the issue and why I cannot reproduce the problem.

Notice the streaming format is mp4 - in Edge we use HLS, which would have an m3u8 extension. Edge has built-in, native support for HLS. If the browser is reporting HLS as not really supported, then it must be IE mobile and not Edge.

nonetheless on your device for whatever reason it's reporting HLS as not supported, and that's what's causing it to use older, more primitive techniques.

It is a new installation of Windows 10 Mobile as 10586.218 was just released. Is there a website you know of that I can go to that can test the browser? As I checked about:flags and saw no option to disable/enable HLS function.

i know there's updates coming for win 10 mobile so it might just be best to give it time. on my testing device it's hls out of the box.

those pages are just playing without trying to detect support. for whatever reason the browser on your device is saying it's not supported. if you want to grab the beta server i can try to force it as supported in tomorrow's beta and we can see what happens with that.

Yes. Lets try the force option. As I am confused on why this is happening.

Okay. Last night I uninstalled the Emby server and cleaned up all the old files. It was an old install anyways from back in Media Browser days. Now when it streams I either get an error saying it cannot play video or it shows a video player screen.

It also seems to be making a .ts file according ot transcoding logs. Is that normal?

what is emulator test?

Well hot damn. When it shows that screen shot and not the error message I just need to wait a bit for buffer and I can hit play and it works! Haza!

what is emulator test?

I downloaded Windows 10 Mobile for Visual Studio and tested it that way. So I could test both physical phone and virtual phone.

ok, i'm not really worried about video playback inside the emulator as they don't always support the same feature sets as the physical devices.
