Hi Everyone,

 

I was hoping you could clarify a few things for me.

 

1) I recently purchased my first Fire Stick and installed the Emby App onto it, when I opened the APP I didn't use the Emby Connect option to find my server I just manually entered the servers local IP address, this worked perfectly. My intention was then to see whether I could enter my servers external IP address into the Emby app from a friends house outside my network to see if it would work. when I opened the Emby App on the Fire Stick from my friends house it just loaded fine and would play any media I selected. How is it doing this if I never entered my servers external IP and only entered the local IP? I was expecting to have to reconfigure the app to use my external IP.

 

 

2) Emby on a Fire Stick is mentioning a trail whenever I play media, what is this referring too, Emby connect?

 

2a) Can you unlock the fire stick forever with a 1 of payment without having to subscribe to Emby Premium?

 

2b) Do I even need to unlock the App if my server is accessible via its public IP?

1)  When the App connected it retrieved the servers local IP and external IP.

 

2)  Android/IOS apps are free to use but actual playback requires unlocking of the app $4.99 (Remote Users), or having a Premier subscription on the server <For local users>.

 

2a) Yes, the server just won't get any premium features.

 

2b) This depends, with IOS it appears it has to be local to the server to be unlocked.  Android does not appear to work that way, and it seems to unlock with Premier on a server.

Correct, the one-off payment is only for playback in the app. The other features require Emby Premiere.

Actually, only partially correct.  Your first assumption is incorrect.

 

You do not have to have Premiere to use the stick inside your local network.  You can just unlock it.

Again thanks for the replies, can I ask whether I would need to unlock the apps, subscribe to premiere or both for my setup?

Server and media stored

2 Fire sticks (TV)

1 Samsung App (TV)

2 PC's

 

Outside my network

4 Fire Sticks at 4 different houses, each house would have their own account on my Emby server.

 

Would an Emby Premiere subscription cover all the Fire Sticks and provide covers etc?

 

Would an Emby Premiere and all Fire Sticks being unlocked be required?

 

Would I need Emby Pemiere at home and at each of the 4 houses?

A Premiere subscription should cover all your local devices now.

 

In the near future (with an app update) the remote ones should be covered as well but with the current release, you would need to purchase the unlock for those.

If I purchase Premiere and unlock the Fire Sticks they (External Fire Sticks) will get all features, covers etc?

 

Alternatively do you have an ETA on the release date for the next app update which will include the change you mention?

I'm not sure what you mean by "covers" but unlocking the app with a purchase just unlocks playback for that app.  It doesn't provide you with any of the other Premiere benefits.  However, if the server you are attached to is Premiere, then it should have the same effect since the server will have those features (such as the CoverArt plug-in if that is to what you are referring).

 

I don't have a specific ETA but hopefully within a couple weeks.  It should be available in beta before then though.
