I would really like to get a single device that can play all the sources I use which is Emby, PlayStation Vue, Netflix, and Amazon.  I rarely play anything from Amazon, so that one isn't as big of a deal.  I also need IR functionality for my Harmony remote.  From all that I read, it sounds like the Nvidia Shield is the closest to offering the same functionality that I get with my MPC, so that is the one I was leaning toward.  The problem is the lack of a PlayStation Vue app in the play store.  Does anyone know if it is possible to sideload that on to the Shield?  If not, how much am I losing going with a FireTV plus flirc?

My collection is mostly bluray folders, TV episodes in MKV containers (mpg2, h264, aac, ac3), and LiveTV.  I would love to be able to direct stream all this including bitstreaming the HD audio.  As for the other sources, all I care about is being able to play them.

Any input one way or the other is appreciated.  I have been doing a lot of searching and finding bits and pieces everywhere, but it has been tough to piece it all together to make a final decision, so I appreciate any advise on the matter.

For BD folders, I don't think it will matter as both of them will have to transcode (maybe not with Kodi...?).

But, if you don't really need Amazon and price isn't an issue the Shield wins hands down.

I recently purchased a Fire TV for the sole purpose of using Playstation Vue. I own a Shield TV and Nexus Player as well and is what I use for most of my television/movie watching.

I actually cancelled my Vue account and re-added my cable due to some issues with the Vue service. That being said, I really hated the Fire TV and I took it back since I wasn't using the Vue service any longer.

However, in order to use the Vue service you will have to use the Fire TV or Playstation device. From everything I have read so far no one has had any luck side loading the Vue App onto any other device.

The Shield is awesome and I am very happy with it. My only complaint so far is there aren't enough TV Everywhere Apps available on it yet. If Vue had been available in the Play Store I may have even stuck with using that service. It only saved me a few dollars to use Vue vs. my Cable provider with bundled TV and Internet so it really wasn't worth it for me. I end up only paying about 30.00 more for Cable TV when I bundle it with internet. I was a little shocked at how much they charge just for internet service.

Anyway, that's my input.
