Cremby 0 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Hello, I've been using Emby for about a week now and everything is great for my TV shows and Movies. However, I'm missing a ton of images for my albums. Emby seems to have correctly identified most of the artists in my collection and correctly downloaded the metadata for them. I spent hours last week retagging my music hoping to solve my issues with the albums. Basically, Plex has correctly identified almost all of my music (about 3 albums/artists are missing artwork). I'm missing the same 3 artists in Emby but my albums are a mess. I'd say 50% of my albums lack artwork. Some of them have the correct Musicbrainz ID but still have no artwork and some lack identification completely. The point of my post is that Plex seems to use last fm for the metadata. Is there a way to have Emby do the same? Is there a way to have Emby get the metadata from Plex? I'd really like to dump Plex completely. Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 We use MusicBrainz and AudioDb. Can you give a specific example of an album that wasn't fetched? What does your music folder structure look like?
Cremby 0 Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 We use MusicBrainz and AudioDb. Can you give a specific example of an album that wasn't fetched? What does your music folder structure look like? Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz The ID3 tag is as follows (as obtained from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Are_You_Gonna_Go_My_Way): Title: Are You Gonna Go My Way Artist: Lenny Kravitz Album: Are You Gonna Go My Way Year: 1993 Track: 1 Genre: Rock It's in the folder "MUSIC_ROOT\Lenny Kravitz and it's the only song there so I didn't see much point in putting a folder for the album. Also, ID3 tag contains the album and Emby seems to detect the album since it's listed. However, there is no artwork. Any help is appreciated.
Luke 42077 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I think there are some areas of improvement for us when songs are not in album folders. can you send me that song? i want to test and correct this exact example. thanks.

Luke 42077 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Just fyi, this song is tagged with an artist but not an album artist, at least not according to the data that ffprobe extracts. @@ginjaninja, i am going to add an assumption here that could possibly turn out to be incorrect, but we'll see. if there are zero album artists, then I will use the first artist as the album artist. after making this change, the song now has an album artist, and the image is now downloaded.

You are correct about the album artist. I did not add album artists for most of my library except in cases where the album artist is different from the track artist. If this is the issue, it's an easy fix. I'll give it a go and see if it solves my issues. Edited March 30, 2016 by Cremby

(the vast majority of the set of all albums only have 1 artist=1 albumartist) there will be a small number of false matches which will be hard to find in Emby's current interface. (currently you cant filter on confidence of match just primary id yes/no) i wonder if the requirement for each album in its own folder is dropped, how that would affect locally stored metadata?

So basically the albums tab wouldn't look right, and the albums per artist wouldn't look right.
