Having trouble with remote access

First of all, thank you for any support you can give.

I have been trying to set up remote access to my Emby server and am having no luck. Everything works fine with Emby theater local. I can also pull up my server on my local pc with the web app.

I have been unable to connect with a second computer on the local network, or with android app.

I believe I have forwarded ports appropriately, but could be wrong.

Please let me know what info you will need to help with this. Also if you need log files, please tell me how to get those for you.

Hi, welcome. Please take a look at our Connectivity Troubleshooter. Please try going though the steps there and see if that helps. Let us know if you're able to resolve it. Thanks.

I went through that step by step about 5 times.  Originally I couldn't even pull up the theater with local web. Let me know what you need about my hardware, router, etc. to help see if I configured it properly.

I too am having issues since the latest update, I can't log in remotely from my own network, but remote access outside my network does work. I can log in via localhost on the server itself. The connectivity issue only showed up after the most recent update (in the last day or so).

What I'd like to know what specific step in that document did not work. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem.  I can connect when I am on the computer I set it up on but I cannot connect from the external address and I've tried port forwarding.  The local address also does not work from my phone when it is on local wifi.

Sorry, I thought I did.  I think I'm missing something because I don't see many steps there.  Nothing on that page helped me connect(opening port on firewall, virus scan, port forwarding).  Invited users are not able to connect either.  Setting up port forwarding was a little weird with my router, is there a way to check that its set up right? Thanks for the help.

But what I'm looking for is what steps worked and what didn't because that helps narrow down where the issue is.

Going through "In-Network Connections", I can connect to my emby server when I type the local address in my browser.  This did not work with other devices on local wifi like my phone.  I have opened port 8096 on my firewall and run a virus scan.  So I guess we can start there but I also could not connect using external connections.  Also thanks ebr, I could not see my port open there so I must have set something up wrong but I've tried a couple times and I can't figure out where I went wrong

Did you test 8096 using canyouseeme.org as RBC suggested?

Yes, It could not see my device because the connection timed out

if he can't access from other devices in his own network then that's the place to start. i would concentrate on the firewall on the server machine. do you have any security software installed? check windows firewall for any blocked rules relating to emby.

I use windows defender.  How do I check for blocked rules?  I've made a new inbound rule opening port 8096 in windows firewall and I don't see port 8096 mentioned in any other rule.

Look for one that was associated with the application Emby, instead of the port. We have seen some occasions where users accidentally dismiss the prompt to create a firewall rule and this results in windows creating a rule that blocks the emby application.

I don't see emby mentioned anywhere except the rule I made.

Can you also check windows firewall?

That was windows firewall.  Where was I supposed to check first?

If you can not connect from other devices on your local network, then it would definitely be firewall on the local server/machine that is running EMBY

There would also be firewall also on your edge router, depending on the model it could be a listed under firewall, or port mapping, you would need to add rules here also to allow access from outside.

Look for a firewall rule blocking MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe

So I've made a rule with windows firewall and I think I set up port forwarding with my router but I also see options for Port Triggering and DMZ Host.  Do I need to do anything with either of those?

Edit: I see 2 rules blocking MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe.  Should I delete those rules?

Yes, definitely delete those.

Ok, those are gone now but I still cant connect

What you could also try just for testing is in the control panel of the computer running EMBY under Firewall, turn off firewall completely and try to connect.  If you can then you have some firewall rules either specifically blocking or not allowing connections.

If you still can't connect even when the local firewall is turned off, it could be your anti-virus (if any) is blocking, or could be a simple as the EMBY service or application is not running.
