camielkb 2 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I love Emby server for being able to have other users log-in on different locations . One problem though wich I am unable to figure out: I don't need to see all TV series at all users. Is this possible?: User 1: 2 Broke Girls, Pretty Little Liars, Breaking Bad User 2: 2 Broke Girls, Breaking Bad, House of Cards User 3: House of Cards, Pretty Little Liars, Grey's Anatomy And so on. Being this without having duplicate files. Thanks for helping out. Hope I made myself clear
horstepipe 422 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I think you could create seperate libraries for each tv show and assign the appropriate access rights to each user. The question is if it's worth the effort and if it interferes the performance of the server.
Luke 42078 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 You can use tags to block content per user: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Parental%20controls
Jack Burton 98 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 This is pretty interesting, customizing individual profiles. Having a large library can make it difficult blocking tags though. Is there an option to only allow certain tags instead? Say I have a friend named Greg as a profile and I only want him to access 1 show. Can I just add a tag "Greg" to the show and only allow access to that tag? 1
ebr 16176 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 If you can categorize them by user then it may not be that difficult. With two kids, I have the following TV libraries: - TV - These are series visible to everyone (depending on parental control) - Allison TV - These are series only my daughter is interested in - Michael TV - ditto for son - Kids TV - These are series both of them are interested in Allison can see TV, Allison TV and Kids TV Michael can see TV, Michael TV and Kids TV I just see TV I group all the folders so that everyone actually just sees a "TV" folder in the interface. Now I just put the series in the proper folder when I first get it and viola!
Jack Burton 98 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 (edited) Ok cool. Just gave it a try, but how are you grouping the folders? I originally had 2 media libraries - TV (2 folders) and Movies (3 folders). I added a media library, and pointed it at 1 TV show. Named it Greg - TV, so I now have 3 media libraries. Now when Greg is logged in he sees Greg - TV as a media folder with nothing in it, and no TV show. Instead of a new library do I add Greg - TV to my existing TV library (2 folders) and point it at a specific TV show? If so, how can I rename it? Adding to the existing media library only offers the option for a new path. Edit: Are your files physically in different folders? Outside of emby, instead of 1 folder for all shows (like I have currently), you you have a tv folder, and an Allison folder, etc? Edited March 27, 2016 by Jack Burton

You can set what library contents get grouped into the default TV and Movies views.

Or, you could create a media library for each user and include only the physical folders they should see. You should not point a media library at an actual TV series folder. It needs to point to the parent of the TV folders.
camielkb 2 Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Thanks for all the replies.. Thinking about this in different ways as far as I can see. I Can't put series into different Parent Folders for each user as there will be too much overlap. So I guess I have to work with tags. As a serie is xxclusive to any user (User1) all other users will not see the series tagged with USER1. But maybe it will work if I make tags with the serie name and hide the series that aren't for that users. This works for series, not for movies. Thing is, it would be easier the other way around. Allowing users to -ONLY- see the series and movies they are tagged in.
ebr 16176 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 A lot of overlap actually makes it easier as those series just stay where they are and you only have to segregate the ones for specific users...
Jack Burton 98 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Maybe I'm over-complicating things, but seems allowing tags per user might make things easier. Say I have 4 users, UserA, UserB, UserC, and UserD. I have a folder in TV called All Users, and now have to make folders for 4 other users. Now, UserA gets access to everything, so they have All Users, and UserA through UserD selected. No problem. Now UserB wants Series1, UserC wants Series2, and UserD wants Series3. Again, no problem, just move the series into the respective folders, and it won't effect UserA anyway. But now, Users B and C want Series4, but D doesn't. Wouldn't I have to physically copy Series4 into each folder for UserB and UserC? That would double the storage space, and I think cause Series4 to show up twice for UserA. So instead I create a folder for UserB and C and allow them access, but now have to create multiple folders for every combination, which can get very confusing when I add any more users. Again, maybe I'm way over thinking this and missing something super easy. Sorry it's so convoluted, I'm just not fully understanding the concept i guess. Seems like it'd take far less effort to simply tag "UserB" to a series, and if UserC wants it too, just add the "UserC" tag. Of course I'm not a programmer so I have no idea how difficult it might be to switch from excluding tags to including tags. Feel free to just tell me to shut up
