Add capability to upload images using URL links

Recommended Posts

It seems that is not possible add an image in the movie browser pasting an URL link to an image. It is possible upload images using drag-and-drop or using online images providers, but it seems that just using an URL is not supported. This feature could be very useful.

Do you have an example of a site that uploads like that? I've never seen anything like that.

You can!

1. Click "Upload image" in Metadata Manager;

2. Click "Choose file" in browser dialogue pop-up;

3. Enter URL of the image in "File name" field;

4. Click "OK" and enjoy. )

Yeah that is what I was going to say. That is really cool if it works. Just never seen something like that. I mean it would be possible, probably taking the url and running it through cURL or wget to grab it, but just haven't seen a site that does that.

I've previously done as @@WWWestern has.

I use Chrome.

@@Luke MSIE11, Firefox, Chrome, seems any.

@@gcw07 if you can view the Properties of the image in the browser then any website. If this is prevented by javascript, it can in fact be disabled in settings. If the image is inserted using HTML generated by javascript or trough CSS, then yes, it is a problem.

BTW The credits belong to @@Abobader On the old site was his post about this trick.

Interesting www. If that works it is probably only in certain browsers. And as usual you know Microsoft would never add a cool thing like that to IE. What browser have you tested that with?

if we can find out what browsers it works in i'll add help text for that to the page.

I have tested on Firefox. It seems that works but after selecting upload, the image is not stored in the images gallery, so actually it doesn't work.

I was using this method as well on chrome, but it does not work flawless. Hard to describe. Would also like to see a proper implementation of URL natively in MBS.

Does using a URL this way save that image locally or does it download each time?

it would download to your internet temp files each time it is called. for folder.jpg this would be ALOT.

actually i dont think any of the metadata site servers would like this at all.

it would call 1000 movie covers (folder.jpg) every time i scroll through my whole movie wall.

Aussiedroid, trusselo, just see the discussed topic: "Add capability to upload images using URL links". This is method for uploading a image from URL, not linking.

Actually both in this instance - downloading from one server and then uploading to ours ;).  But the function in the dashboard is primarily to upload an image to our server so that is why it is labeled that way.
