Can the server handle/parse the wtv default naming scheme?

I don't have this installed yet, still weighing the options between this and Plex. I know with Plex any wtv files would have to be renamed to a more conventional naming scheme to be parsed/recognized by the metadata scraper. Setting up something to auto rename wtv files after they have been recorded isn't going well on my end.

Because MB is/was so closely tied to WMC, I'm wondering if the server-scraper can handle/parse wtv files that are in their native naming format/haven't been renamed to a more conventional format?

The way WMC names its recorded TV/wtv files is like this:

60 Minutes_WFORDT_2013_12_22_19_30_00

Key & Peele_COMEDY_2013_12_18_22_30_00

Les Misérables_HBOHD_2013_09_08_13_45_00

At the moment we do not support this, however, it looks pretty easy to parse. I'm moving this to feature requests.

OK thanks; just in case it is of any help to you or others - there is metadata written to the wtv file after it records too that might be better/more robust for the scrapper to handle.

we already grab the metadata from inside the wtv, however, if we're then able to match the item from an internet source it ends up getting overwritten.

That's good to know then, thanks luke.

This is actually a really good case for a renamer plugin because .wtv recordings of TV episodes are impossible to identify based on the filename only. Manual renaming is difficult because reading the metadata from the files is hard to do.

Great topic. I'm just now starting to rename my tv episodes and seasons. I have a mix of wmc recorded shows and ripped shows. It would be great to have a way to incorporate them together.

I'd love this as well.  Unfortunately, I don't think it is nearly as easy as it looks as I tried to write a script to do this on my own.  The problem is the WTV Episode and Air Dates do not line up with the same data on TheTVDB for many series (some are better than others), so it is difficult to extract the Season and Episode numbers and get it right 100% of the time.  Doing some guessing with the Levenshtein Distance and an approximate air date (within a week), I got to about 90% accurate, but I couldn't get it any better.  To get it any more accurate, you'll need to reference the same source as the WTV file, which I assume is Tribune Media Servers

I have found (please correct me if I am wrong) that the .wtv metadata schema does not have a field for season/episode information. My guide grabber reads the "xmltv_ns" tag and inserts "Season X, Episode Y" into the program subtitle field in the WMC guide data.

It is then available to read from the wtv file metadata but I have found no program that can properly read it and move/rename the files.

If MBS could read this and grab metadata it would be awesome. How does the wtv metadata parsing work?
