tobias-tobin 9 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Hi, I apologize if I should know this answer and don't but... I have a family member that I got a Roku for, and this person was using it to watch my content using plex. I called them and guided them through getting MB3 added to their Roku and setup to connect to my server. I have not actually seen MB3 on the Roku. He asked me how he could see new content. Just like in MB on the PC, how newly added movies and tv shows are listed. Is this possible on the Roku? Or is this a feature that will be added later? I noticed the tutorials and guides section here has a lot of hits but no content. Soon I will be setting up a Roku myself. Would you like for me to make some kind of guide or tutorial for it? If so, do you have a preference on what I focus on? And I have an ElGato at home that we use to record console video gaming. I might be able to use it with the Roku to make a video or have screenshots. If this is something you would like for me to do, give me some idea of what exactly to focus on so I don't make something that is not needed. Thanks, tobias. 1
tobias-tobin 9 Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 Luke, Tell me what you want though. Just a write up? How to add the channel and connect to server? Do you want me to write something in Word and send it to you for review? BTW - any word on Roku showing newly added content? Does it do that or no?
gcw07 347 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Tobias. Yes recently added content is in there and shows up right on the first screen when you enter the app. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like:
Luke 42077 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Yea I think this would be a great community contribution.
Luke 42077 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 No, you can go ahead and do it here in our KB. I'll leave it up to our moderators to review. gcw07 can answer the recently added question
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 When you highlight "Toggle Display" and hit the OK button it switches between the three views. Quite nice without taking up a lot of space.
tobias-tobin 9 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Well dangit. Why did he even ask me then. It is right there. LOL. Thanks. Edited December 26, 2013 by tobias-tobin
tobias-tobin 9 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 I just gave him a call. I guess resume was highlighted so he was seeing what he already watched. I explained to him and he is good now. The only other thing I've been asked about is a way to search to get to a letter in the alphabet quick (i.e. I have 1300 movies). I told him that was in the works. Thanks and sorry for asking about something starring me in the face. tobias.
gcw07 347 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 No problem. Yeah if you have files that are "resumable" it shows that first, then if you don't it defaults to latest. Eventually I'll get it where it saves the state of the toggle so it brings up the one you last were on. And yeah, search will be coming. I'm working on photo support right now, but search is one of the top priorities.
tobias-tobin 9 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 Thank you for the help. I'll let him know that if he has resumable items, it will default to that until the app changes to go to a last chosen state. BTW - since I don't know how this works... I had him install the client through the Roku site. Do I need to show him how to side-load so he can be putting updated versions on, or should I just leave it alone until it is published in Roku channel store? I sided-loaded on one as a gift yesterday after adding it through the Roku site. Now it shows two Mediabrowsers in his My Channels. I did not know how to remove one so he only see's one (this is a different person). Just not sure how to advise him on getting newer updated betas. Since he is not real technical I will want to keep it simple. Sorry if I should have started a new thread.
gcw07 347 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Really I would just recommend you stick with the one available in store. Going forward there are basically going to be two versions. There is the stable version released via the Roku store. Then there will be the private channel Beta version. It is not guaranteed to work and could easily crash or just not work. It is a Beta. Unless you like testing stuff, it isn't something you should be on. Really unless your using a Now TV or I've asked you to, you shouldn't be using a side-loaded version. As for removing the side-loaded version. If you login to the Roku through the web page. The same place you uploaded the zip to. There is an option to "Delete" it. It will delete the side-loaded channel and leave him with only the store one.
tobias-tobin 9 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Hi gcw07, Thank you for the response. I now know what to do. I apologize, I didn't realize MB was available through the store! I thought it was in beta and being finished up for release to the store. Thanks again for the info. tobias.

geremye 2 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 is there a way to view more than 12 of the recently added movies? or any other way to sort the library other than alphabetical? roku app is very clean by teh way.
gcw07 347 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 No to the first one. And not at this time for the second. Eventually sorting will be implemented within the libraries. And thanks.
