DLNA discovery issues with xbox one

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! The Theater is fantastic on Xbox One.

But there is a problem with the DLNA device discovery with XboxOne. It just doesn't show up under devices to playto.

I have wait literally hours for it to show up, and it doesn't.

Not sure is MS changed how the Xbox is representing itself on the network again.

might be worth looking into.

Doesn't appear that anyone has responded to Luke's request here, so maybe you can @@chef.

On it! Thank you!

I tested the WIndows Version of the Server from the link posted above, but I still had no luck getting Xbox One to show up in the device list.

I created a small emby network app, which writes a log on my server if my xbox one becomes available in emby at anytime.

It lists the date and time it became available.

I have started to run it now. This way I can see if it became available in emby while I am at work.

I am going to run my xbox one all day.

Something else has come up regrading this issue. On the Server none of my Chromcasts are listed, however on my Android Tablet, the chromecasts will show up in the list.

So does that point to a problem somewhere else since a previously working version doesn't work?

NO WAIT! I lied the Xbox One DLNA does work on that version! shows up right away! And... I am running Version 3.0.5906.0

which all of a sudden lists the Xbox in the Playto Devices....

not sure if this is on purpose?, or if it was because I reset the Xbox?, or maybe because I ran that posted version of the server from the other thread?

I don't know why... and I am not sure if it is fixed forever or just right now...

I'll keep in touch and test some more...

So that should point to the DLNA fixes in 5870 or 5871.

Well your update would probably point to resetting the Xbox if it is working the current beta.

wonderful!

Now I have to figure out why my plugin pages aren't loading properly. Are you experiencing anything like that?

If I refresh my browser page on a plugin configuration, it locks up and doesn't load. This might be something for a separate thread...

I'm not seeing an issue currently but looks like there is a fix in dev right now.

3.0.5921.20537

•Fix plugin page refreshing

Guess it depend on the plugin as some have issues in 5906.

I think I'll move to Dev. I should be there anyway, to help out more with testing.

Much obliged thank you for your help Happy.

Guys so sorry, but I am experiencing this issue again. The xbox has been on all morning and still doesn't present itself in the the DLNA server.

Server Version: Version 3.0.5930.0

I have tried restarting everything, and still the box is not listed.

Ben

Edit: I can confirm that moving back to Stable release Version 3.0.5912.0 the xbox shows itself.  That dirt little scamper! lol!

Hope that helps.

That's a coincidence. There's no dlna differences between beta and stable.

Okay. I'll go back and see whatis happening.

Some services for xbox live are down today. Not sure if that would have anything to do with how the console is behaving.

Thanks again.

Been following this thread, and I'm having the same issue: My Xbone is never picked up right away in the play-to menu in Emby. It takes hours before it shows up, and sometimes it never shows up. Interestingly, it always shows up in Windows 10's play-to menu.

I'm on the current beta build of Emby. I can provide whatever debug info you need, just let me know what I can do to help troubleshoot this.

Thanks,

S.J.

I too am still having this problem. Xbox One and Samsung TV refuse to appear in the available device list. I'm currently on Version 3.0.5943.0 but this has been an issue for the last several versions. Emby works on the following without issues

1. iPhone with the emby app. (Neither chrome or safari load the webpage properly)

2. Emby theater

3. Apple TV 4th gen emby app

4. Both my computers browsers

5. On the Xbox One if I use the app.emby.tv

6. On the Xbox One if I use the media player app then browse to emby to play a video

Where emby does not work.

1. Xbox One trying to use Play To, the Xbox One doesn't appear in the device list even though it appears in the Media Player app.

2. Samsung Tv trying to use Play To, the Samsung Tv doesn't appear in the device list.

I've been running emby for a long time with "Enable DLNA debug logging" turned on and I have submitted my logs before. Please tell me what else you need from me to get this working. I spend 95% of my time watching my media via the Xbox one and not having play to working is a massive pain in the butt. app.emby.tv is too buggy on the xbox one and using the media player app is too clumsy.

I haven't been able to reproduce this, but if I'm able to at some point then I'll obviously make changes based upon it.

Don't know what changes but I have a Stable server that looses "Play To" options to my Samsung TV with every update.  My workaround is restore the system.xml from when v3.0.5882 was installed and start new server build with old xml and "Play to" returns.

Only difference I can see in the system.xml is the migration section.

This has been consistently working for about the past week now after a few months of consistently NOT working. Don't know if it was something in one of the new beta builds (though I'm guessing you guys made no changes to DLNA) or what, but it's working now... There have been no changes on my network or to my XBone. I guess it's theoretically possible that there was a Windows 10 update (my Emby server runs on 10) or that Comcast made a stealth firmware update on my router that may have fixed the issue...

Yea things have been smooth as silk here as well.

But, and I say this for no particular reason, my server version hasn't changed since .5913.

Just realized I haven't updated in a long while.

Hi guys, there's a fix for this on the beta branch, in 3.0.5963. Please try it out and report back. Thanks!

Ok, I don't want to jinx it but I updated, rebooted, turned on my TV/xBone and it showed up instantly in emby. Hope that's the winning ticket. What did you change in this release or better question what was the gremlin in the machine? lol
