hansolo77 11 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Since I upgraded the server through the automatic process, Emby Server no longer starts up correctly. I've noticed that I can't access my media remotely, so I remote desktop into my server machine and check. Sure enough, the Server isn't running. I can quick and easy start it, but it doesn't completely start. The Pop-Up "LOADING" screen appears, and goes through it's loading process to what appears to be 100%, but the loading screen never minimizes to the taskbar. With it still on screen, I can go into the admin screens of the Emby Server web app just fine. I've also noticed that the program DOESN'T restart on it's own like it used to via the scheduled task addon to restart the server. I have to manually start it every day now (been at least 3-4 days I think). Does the addon need updated to work with the newest version of the server maybe? I've not made any other changes to the setup (other than a system update that went live yesterday). Also, this is a taskbar icon version of the server, not running as a service anymore. server-63593078400.txt This log is the most recent prior to the server restart this morning. server-63593118486.txt Log immediately following restart. (shows it didn't fully shut down?) server-63593127629.txt This log shows the restart process after I had manually restarted it. After this, I was able to get into the web app. I tried to do a restart from there, but nothing happened.. the "loading" screen never closed or minimized. I opened Windows Task Manager and forced an End Task on the program. server-63593127769.txt This is the log showing where I had manually tried to restart and CLOSE the server app. Once again, showing it didn't shut down.. server-63593128013.txt Finally, this is the most recent/current running log since the 2nd manual restart. I'm going to try rebooting the computer at this point, but I suspect Emby Server will not auto-start like it had been in the past.
Luke 42085 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 these logs all look fine. what i would try doing is removing all plugins, reboot your computer, then start emby server and see how the core server runs by itself. thanks.
hansolo77 11 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the reply Luke. Surprisingly, after I wrote that post, I rebooted the server machine and Emby Server loaded right up like it always did, with no lag or the LOADING screen staying up. I'll keep an eye on it and report back after trying your suggestion if it does it again. Any idea what could have caused it? Edited March 9, 2016 by hansolo77
hansolo77 11 Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 Ok, I had it happen again today. I did a little bit of trial and error troubleshooting, and I think I've figured out what is happening.. Whenever the Server app is told to shut down, it doesn't. Well, it does, but it takes upwards of 2 minutes some times. The Server app then tries to load up again but fails because the previously running app hasn't fully shutdown yet. I had the task manager open, and watched as I first used the Server Restart plugin, and then using the direct method on the Server Admin homepage. In both cases, the Emby Server running process fails to close in a timely manner, and the next iteration of the Emby Server process attempts to start before the previous one finishes closing. In both cases, the 2nd start up "crashes" (it doesn't crash, but stops trying to load) and then disappears from the task manager. Once that happens, and the 1st Emby Server process finally closes, the system remains without Emby running. This then requires a direct manual launching of the Server addon to get it working again. I tried uninstalling all the extra plugins, but it still has this same result. I'm not sure what's changed, or even what can be done to fix it. Perhaps the next version of the Server app could include some extra time before trying to restart it, or maybe some checks to verify the process has fully closed prior to restarting it again..
hansolo77 11 Posted March 29, 2016 Author Posted March 29, 2016 I'm still having this issue. I was watching a movie tonight and all of a sudden my Kodi popped up an alert that the EMBY Server was unreachable. The movie continued to play though (obviously playing from the stored physical location rather than streaming through Emby). When it finished, I remote desktop'ed into my server and looked. The Emby Server icon wasn't in the task bar. However, if I checked my Task Manager, it showed it was still running (with 0% cpu and 230 mb RAM). I tried to END TASK on it 4-5 times until it finally closed after a few minutes. I then tried to restart it via the Start Menu Icon. Watching the Task Manager, I saw it pop up for maybe a second before it disappeared again. I then tried launching it again, and this time got an error about something with the updater. So I forced another End Task and again waited a good 2-3 minutes before it finally disappeared. I tried to launch it a 3rd time, watching it disappear as soon as it appeared again. Then I launched it a 4th time, this time it popped up the Loading banner, and just sat there after showing the progress bar up to about 95%. I went to the bathroom and came back about 10 minutes later and it was still showing it was Loading. Another few minutes go by and then, FINALLY, it's up and running. I log into the admin website and see that Emby had downloaded a new update, and needed to be restarted to install the update. So I go through the whole process again (which took another half hour or so). The restart button in the web site DOES shut down the task bar icon, but FAILS to end the actual task in the Task Manager. I had to force close it yet again. Upon restarting, I got another error about the updater. Then after restarting the program for like the 10th time, it finally went through again, this time with no errors. I had to refresh the web page, and it now shows I'm using the latest version (3.0.5911.0). This is getting ridiculous. I've made no changes to my system, yet ever since the beginning of March I've had nothing but issues with the Server. It crashes, it fails to shut down on command, it fails to load. I've posted the logs (see my OP) and yet nothing can be found. I've uninstalled ALL my plugins except for Kodi Sync and Trakt, both of which don't have anything to do with the server itself. Is it possible my setup is somehow corrupted? What do I do? I'm getting pretty irked about it. It looks like the exact same issue as I reported in my last post.. about the shutdown not fully taking before the next attempt to run starts, which causes it to stop loading altogether.
