MB Rich 4 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 With my current setup I have a Samsung UE46F8000 running off my Broadwell NUC over HDMI. I'm not using bitstreaming. I previously used the WMC client with MPC-HC as an external player. I can't recall all of the settings but I'm sure I had some normalisation and some boost of the volume in there somewhere. This meant that for a lot of content (e.g. TV shows) I would have the TV volume set to match the broadcast TV I'd watch on the TV tuner (typically 8-16 volume). With some movies (AC3?) on the HTPC I might have to go into the 20s to get a decent volume. Since switching to Theater, I'm finding that all content requires a volume of at least the mid to high 20s. This is a bit of a pain as it makes the interface sounds in Theater way too loud and, if you forget to turn it down, it's far too loud when switching back to the TV's internal tuner. I've seen the option for dynamic range compression but this doesn't seem to make a difference (at least that I can tell). Is there some other way the volume can be boosted / normalised so that it's in line with the TV's internal tuner?
Jdiesel 1431 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) You really shouldn't be boosting audio if you can help it however if all other options have been exhausted your can try enabling loudness equalization globally in windows. If you still need a bit more, enable the equalizer too and boost all ranges by an equal amount. Edited March 9, 2016 by Jdiesel
MB Rich 4 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Yeah, I know it's generally a bad idea but it's just a massive pain to have to keep cranking it up and down (fnar). I'll give the windows settings a tweak and see.
MEB 27 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I agree with media being to low and what is even more jarring is when you use tv show intros they are twice as loud and scares the crap out of you when they start and you forgot you have one set for that show. We need a setting for volumes.
