Tanamur 53 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Emby Windows Server: Version 3.0.5882.0 Hi Forum - I need a bit of help after the renaming of my TV (Recent) library to just TV has caused all my artwork in that library to disappear. Briefly as background, I have a large NAS where I archive my collection/library once released on DVD. I don't run this 24/7 since I don't need access to it all of the time. Therefore, a large part of my library appears as Offline. I also run a couple of low power external disks for recently recorded content which are online 24/7. I am currently on a six month assignment and travelling with my NUC server, Amazon FireTV and two external disks. I do not have access to the NAS for a few months since I did not bring it. So, all I did was rename the library. I did not add or remove any of the folder paths for the online and offline content. I do not store metadata with the video content in their folders. It has been a week since I did this and the Clean Database and Scan Library tasks have run multiple times per day, yet none of the artwork has reappeared. All of the series descriptions, episode synopses, networks, ratings, etc. are in tact but still no artwork even for the content stored on local disks. The one artwork example you see in the library view below is because I specifically edited the series and refreshed the images. How badly have I corrupted things and is there any hope of recovery without deleting the library and starting over? I have added a couple of library views for reference. Thanks in advance for any help. Edited March 7, 2016 by Tanamur
Tanamur 53 Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 what did you rename exactly? I had a library of Content Type tv/television named "TV (Recent)". I went to the web based Server Management > Library and selected the Rename option from the 3-dot menu and renamed the library to "TV". That is the only change I made.
Tanamur 53 Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 do you store metadata in media folders? Sorry @@Luke - that was a late edit to the original post. No, I don't store it locally in the series folders.
Luke 42083 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 this change might have also moved you into the newer conventions. check the front page of the server dashboard under paths to see what your metadata path is. it is probably /programdata/metadata see if you have a /programdata/data/metadata folder that has lots of sub-folders with images. if you do then try moving it into the above.

There does not seem to be a */data/metadata folder but just the */metadata folder under my custom path. I set up the server with a dedicated HDD and custom metadata path under Server>Settings>Advanced as below. There does seem to be a duplication of folder at the Emby/* and the Emby/metadata/* levels for things like people and artists. This may be due to some experimentation with the custom path when first setting it up a year ago. If you look at the folder dates only the \cache and \transcoding-temp folders have been modified in this year of 2016 so I don't think the other folders other than \metadata are active: S:\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby maps to \\NUC\MetaData\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby Cache: \\NUC\MetaData\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby\cache Logs: C:\Users\Tanamur\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\logs Metadata: \\NUC\MetaData\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby\metadata Transcoding temporary files: \\NUC\MetaData\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby\transcoding-temp Directory of S:\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby 2015-08-12 05:57 <DIR> . 2015-08-12 05:57 <DIR> .. 2015-06-11 16:33 <DIR> artists 2016-02-15 11:04 <DIR> cache 2015-06-11 16:33 <DIR> channels 2014-09-07 20:32 <DIR> GameGenre 2015-06-17 18:47 <DIR> Genre 2015-09-15 14:19 <DIR> metadata 2015-06-11 16:33 <DIR> MusicGenre 2015-06-11 17:32 <DIR> People 2015-06-19 21:53 <DIR> Studio 2016-02-29 10:46 <DIR> transcoding-temp 2015-06-11 17:33 <DIR> views 2015-06-11 17:33 <DIR> Year Directory of S:\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby\metadata 2015-09-15 14:19 <DIR> . 2015-09-15 14:19 <DIR> .. 2016-02-24 09:36 <DIR> artists 2015-09-04 15:14 <DIR> channels 2015-10-19 01:18 <DIR> Genre 2015-08-08 22:43 <DIR> library 2015-12-21 10:52 <DIR> MusicGenre 2015-12-04 02:18 <DIR> People 2015-11-20 04:53 <DIR> Studio 2016-02-16 15:30 <DIR> views 2015-08-10 15:24 <DIR> Year Edited March 8, 2016 by Tanamur
Tanamur 53 Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 HI @@Luke - Thanks for the personal attention to this issue. Obviously the first rule of support is to change one thing at a time. If you have the time I would really like to proceed. If not, I assume I should just rebuild when I have access to my archives again. On the topic though, I would like to understand if losing the artwork after renaming the library via the Manage Server>Library is an anomaly in your opinion as well? Cheers, Tanamur
Luke 42083 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 no it's not normal. we've been trying to migrate servers into the newer ways of doing things, so i'm guessing something just got botched there. what you could try is copying folders from the other two metadata folders into \\NUC\MetaData\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby\metadata
Tanamur 53 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Hi @@Luke - As I recall, during one of the last one or two server updates I recall seeing a dialog box on screen for a while telling me that the database was being updated. So that process was completed before I renamed the Library. I have backed everything up and will copy the duplicated folders at the higher level to the *\metadata folder. Given the various areas where I can set up custom paths that will leave me with: Directory of S:\ARCHIVE_MetaData\Emby 2015-08-12 05:57 <DIR> . 2015-08-12 05:57 <DIR> .. 2016-02-15 11:04 <DIR> cache 2015-09-15 14:19 <DIR> metadata 2016-02-29 10:46 <DIR> transcoding-temp Does anything look out of place there? If this has no effect on the artwork I will try to go to the Metadata Manager and ask it to refresh "Missing Data Only" and see if it "relinks" the pointers.
Tanamur 53 Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) try it out Hi @@Luke - Things are slowly returning to normal. Most of the upper level folders (Views, GameGenre, Year, etc.) were empty however some of the image folders for (People, Artists, etc.) did have some items to add to the lower level folders in \metadata. Nothing was overwritten in \metadata\library or \metadata\views. I moved on to Metadata Manager, selected the "TV" library and selected Refresh>Add Missing Data Only. It appears to be slowing downloading the missing images rather than re-linking since all of the episode vidcaps for offline content is being replaced with default thumbs. Lastly, for lack of a better technical term, the database for this library while being viewed with the web or Amazon FireTV interface seems to be "gummy" and "slow". It is improving with time but initially required 30 secs to display the thumb grid for all shows and another 30 secs after scrolling a page right. Many thanks for your help @@Luke!
