Any way to disable automatic metadata updates?

I'm trying to speed up my library scans as they literally take hours and hours. After reading topics on the forum, both recent and not so recent, one thing I want to try is mentioned in this 2 year old post:

It mentions disabling Automatic Updates for TV + Movies metadata by navigating to Metadata and then clicking on the advanced tab. When I tried doing that, I saw no option to do so. As the post is 2 years old, I understand a lot has changed in the interim, but is there a way to disable these automatic updates? and if so, would anyone be able to guide me to finding this option?

I'm running the most recent version (as of 03/06/2016) Version 3.0.5882.0

those are off by default so it's probably nothing to worry about
