Nvidia Shield Version 3.0 (MM 6.0) issues

Hi Ebr,

I haven't been using the Emby App in my Shield for a while since I have been mostly testing the new ET app. However, since the Shield updated to MM I thought I would give it another go.

There are a couple of odd things I noticed and some that are just requests. Overall though playback is beautiful now with Live TV and my recorded shows and movies. The app is very much improved since I last used it.

So, the first thing is that the App transcodes some of my TV recordings, but not others. Two different ones that I tried was a .ts file recorded from the Emby TV DVR and a .mpg file recorded from the HDHomerun DVR.

The .ts file does not transcode and direct plays just fine. However, when I try to skip forward playback restarts from the beginning of the file instead of skipping forward. I even tried to skip forward by like 2 minutes just to test it but it just restarts the file.

The .mpg file is transcoding for some reason. The only difference in the file is the file extension. This may not even matter for my future shows because I am newly testing the Emby Live TV and so far it is working well for me so I may be switching over for all my shows from the HDHomerun DVR anyway. However, that leaves the above skipping issue a problem with the .ts file.

I am running the Dev version of the server 3.0.5901.32022. The Emby App is version 1.1.57. I am on the Beta tester versions of the App.

The only other thing I wanted to bring up about the App is the Live TV EPG. On the web client and ET, when a show is new it tells you in the block for that show on the guide. I noticed this isn't implemented in the App. Is it possible to include that in the App?

Can you confirm the media info for that item with the web client?  Specifically, does it know the duration?

But up above that, in the normal info, does it show a running time?

Sorry, yes, it says 62 min

I too also encounter the same issue as Jason on my Shield TV (6.0)  when attempting to skip forward on recorded TV where it will restart the .ts file.

Looks like I'm going to have to disable seeking for .ts as the player doesn't support it.

You should be able to get around this limitation with the server's new convert to mp4 functionality.

I see. The problem with the convert to mp4 conversion for me is that it converts the audio to acc 5.1 which doesn't get handled well by my receiver. I googled this and apparently that is a problem. My reveiver reads it as stereo instead of DTS like it does with the native AC3 format.

I think the conversion is just limiting the result to 2-channel right now for maximum compatibility.  That will probably be expanded.

Well, on the Dev server it will do 5.1. On Beta you're right, it only does 2 channel. Luke and discussed it briefly in another thread. If we can get it transcode to mp4 with AC3 5.1 (essentially just pass it through) then that would work well for me. I know a lot of stuff is coming either way. Very exciting.

Just an update.   When I roll back to the stable release, I can fast forward the recorded TV .ts file without issue.

That is expected.  The players between the two versions are completely different.

The player in the release version is not compatible with the new version plus the player in the new version is superior in many other ways.

Updated to 1.1.60g here tonight and the FF with the .TS files seems to be working correctly.     When I move ahead ahead (say 5:00 min), I see it momentarily pause and the counter resets to 0:00, but then it will jump to the correct time.    Resume is working correctly as well.   This is with the 'Automatically Convert Recordings To A Streaming Friendly Format', NOT enabled.
