Identify duplicate movies based on IMDB ID

Title says it all. Any chance?

Actually, your title doesn't say it all for me.

In what context?  For what purpose?

Sorry, I am looking for a way to find out movies that I have twice in my library. Given I have 1000+ movies in my library, it is not so easy to identify duplicates.

Sort them by name...?

Imagine 2000 movies in the libray ;-)  Basically impossible to spot them manually. And sometimes, I also renamed one movie (and logged the movie name).

Well, this would be purely a metadata manager function then and, honestly, I'm not crazy about it because it basically caters to someone who has obtained a bunch of movies illegally.  Otherwise, you'd know what you had.

Agree with you that this is mainly (but not only) a metadata management function. Disagree with you that this is in any way related to illegal content. This is mainly for identifying movies that have been ripped in SD and HD or movies that I have in 2D and 3D. This function would allow to spot those and then decide whether to keep the two versions or not. Not sure whether you have seen the PMS implementation, which is quite nice.

I think, actually, we would want to attack the issue of the same movie in multiple formats differently than just a management interface.  If that is the goal, it would be better if MB in general understood multiple formats of the same movie - as opposed to just duplicate copies of the same movie.  I see that as two separate issues.

Yeah, it's a bit OT - but a good example of this is a 3D + 2D pair of rips off the same disk.

Why not just take the time to scroll down your long list of movies in Metadata Manager? I fail to see how someone can't take the time to do that, but then would ask someone else to take however many hours it would take to impliment this feature? No offense intended, but this is what I do and my movie list is probably as long as anyone's since I've been collecting since 2001.

Doesn't any request made require hours upon hours for the developer to implement? I fail to see how this request is any different. I thought what was suppose to make MB different from other similar servers was that it tries to facilitate the users media collection by offering many filtering options. Offering features others don't have.

Personally I have been collecting since my DVD days and goes into the thousands. I have been replacing the dvd rips I have with my bluray rips and sometimes I might forget If already ripped a certain movie and end up placing it on another drive. Another case where having this feature would be useful is if one of the drives (I have 7 drives on my server) dies all of a sudden (i know i know, not your problem that I didn't have a raid going or some method to backup properly) and I have to rip all those movies again. What if I don't know which of those movies are missing and end up ripping duplicate movies?(rhetorical)

It is a valid request from the metadata management standpoint. Not a whole lot of support for it so far, but still valid.

Thanks, any chance to see this functionality implemented during one of the next server releases?

Would like to see this as well. Should be one of the options under Reports.

I would also LOVE this option. I have been searching for this (Hence how I landed here)

Also

In response to

I agree with that statement, however, if you consider all the people it may save hours for, than it may outweigh the development hours. But who knows, it just may be the 3 of us on the topic that would actually use it. Even better, we all may go the way of online services in the next few years and non longer keep our own media.... But  I doubt it
