runtimesandbox 171 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I was wondering how the emby server detects whether its local or external. Does it detect the external local and external IP and go off that? The reason for asking is because my emby server is virtualised and behind a firewall / router on the server. It's internal IP is 192.168.X.X. My real LAN is 10.10.X.X which the external interface on the virtual server uses. Does emby see that ip 10.10.X.X as the external IP? I'm wondering what will happen if I set the max external bit rate. Will it have an effect on my local network?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) What does the dashboard show? As long as the server is recognizing your "Local access" is 192.168.X.X and your "Remote access:" is 10.10.X.X or custom ddns. Everything communicating with the server via Remote Access address applies to this setting. Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps): An optional streaming bitrate limit for all out of network clients. This is useful to prevent clients from requesting a higher bitrate than your internet connection can handle. Edited March 3, 2016 by Happy2Play
runtimesandbox 171 Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 The dashboard picks up the local as 192.168.x.x and the remote as 10.10.x.x The trouble is the 10.10.0.0 is my real local network and the 192.168.x.x is just local to the virtual server. The remote is actually outside the 10.10. network out on the internet
Luke 42083 Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 try connecting internally and look at the ip's that are reported by clients on your lan. that will tell you how the detection is going to go. It's not an exact science unfortunately, and can easily be fooled by various configurations.
