Ubuntu write permissions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've installed my server on an ubuntu machine but I can't get write access to a second hardrive.

The drive is mounted, my user has write/read access to everything on that drive but not emby.

How can I give emby write permissions to my mounted hard drive?

Best regards

check the user account that the app runs under, probably the emby account we created, then assign permissions to that user

What filesystem is the hard drive using?  Also, are you using fstab to mount it or are you using an automount?

Hello,

Thank you for your help. I solved the problem adding user emby to the group owner of the hard drive.

Best regards

i have the same problem, i have 2 partitions on my drive, one with chaletos linux and the other is a ntfs where are my movies... but emby doesn't detect it. it only detects my linux partition, how can i give permissons to emby to detect?

NTFS permissions are a PITA due to the way that Windows does file system permissions. Probably the easiest way to solve the problem is to add the by user to the group that has permission to access the hard drive.

So this drive isn't being mounted via fstab, I take it?

You should be able to change the mount options for that drive in the disk utility.  ChaletOS appears to be using KDE so I am unfamiliar with the disk utility, but searching for Disks in the "start" menu should find all of the disk related stuff.  A quick Google search says it MIGHT be in the partition manager.  If you take a look at the guide for file permissions that I just wrote, you will find what options you need to add.

Just because you have an fstab doesn't mean it is necessarily mounting your external drives. The fstab tells your system what drives need to be mounted and where they need to be mounted for the system to work. In disks, there should a tab for mounting options when you click on the drive on the left.
