Missing Movies in One Catagory

This has occurred several times so finally decided to pose the question/issue.

I have several categories of movies. These categories are spread over a number of drives. Each drive has folders for each of movie categories. What I have been having is a situation where one category is only showing 13 movies. The other strange thing is when you hit the Movie option on the top of the page it is not showing the number of movies in the category. There should be over 50. I have a screenshot of that here. I also show another category of movies which has the accurate # of movies and is showing that. I thought that somehow the system was only seeing movies from one of the drives but the movies currently displayed run across the drives. So the system is obviously seeing the drives. And since this is not impacting other categories...same thing.

The impacted category is using the same number of folders as the others and is using UNC path as can be seen in the following two images.

I even tried rebooting emby to see if it is a startup issue since I reboot my system every morning. Same result. Now the way I'm able to fix this is to manually go back to the library and remove the path and add it back in. That is a pain in the arse.

I'm on Version 3.0.5894.0.

Did you setup any parental controls?

None. To clarify: When I say category I meant I have movies separated by 2d movies, 3d movies, 2d family movies 3d family movies, christmas movies, documentaries, classics, Animation Movies (those a bit more violent than for kids).  This issue is only impacting "christmas movies". Like I said, I know I can remove the folders and add them back and I'll be fine. I just don't want to keep doing that.

I did not mean category like rating.

I just decided to remove the folders and re-add them. That works but hopefully this does not occur again.

This has occurred again with the same library. I know there is nothing wrong with my drives because I use plex as well and they see all 76 movies in the library. I don't know exactly when this occurred since I only noticed it today when wondering why some of my christmas related box sets were empty.

I'm going to try just removing the library completely and start over. Sucks but I can't keep doing this every few weeks. The good news I guess is that it is not impacting my other libraries.

I notice you're running a non-stable version of Emby Server so I would just like to say thank you for helping to test Emby pre-release versions.

I had the situation occur again but this time was more drastic. I have 8 categories of movies: 2D Movies, 2D Family, 3D movies, 3D Family, Christmas Movies, Classics, 2D Action Animation and Documentaries. In reviewing both plex and Emby I was missing movies in all categories. In 2D Movies I was missing 40, 3D Family missing 1, and a different number from each category.  It appears that all of the movies were related to one of my share drives. Plex seems to be able to see all of the movies from the R: drive however Emby can see most but not all. I use a share drive for emby of the same physical drive (\\computer\RDrive\media\3D Family is an example).

In the 3D Family category, I removed the share noted above then added it back. I thought I at best would get the one missing movie added back, but the strange thing as soon as I added it back, emby scan then found all of the missing movies in all of the categories. One removal of a share for one category then adding it back fixed all.

I don't know if running a non-stable version is causing my issues but if that's the case then I guess it is time for me to stick /w a stable version.

I think it is much more likely that it has to do with either the disc hardware or networking software.

Especially since you saw issues in multiple programs.

I would tend to agree with you except for the following: 1) Plex which uses the same drives has never had an issue with losing movies, 2) I could access the drive and go through all of the folders that house the movies with zero issue, 3) there are a total of 689 movies on this one drive. The # of lost movies totaled under 100. This means Emby did not lose access to the drive and 4) I thought maybe a restart of emby would somehow see the movies after I confirmed the drive and movies where online and no go. The only way for it to work was to remove the share from one of the movie categories then add it back and all of a sudden...all is ok.

You noted a disc hardware issue: Maybe but again plex can see and play all of these movies that were missing. You noted network software: The drives are connected via a USB 3.0 hub but I'm using network shares because that's what I thought was the best method.

Up to a few minutes ago (exactly when I can't speculate) the movies have disappeared again. To prove that drive is working correctly I have provided a number of screenshots. I have sorted the 3d family movies in reverse name order. Screen shot:

  1. Shows Mr. Sherman and Peabody in between The Nightmare Before Christmas and Monsters vs Aliens in Plex.
  2. Is a screenshot of it playing in Plex.
  3. In Emby there is no such movie. Was there up to this morning.
  4. I did a search for all movies on the drive under the folder 3D family. As we can see, it is there.

I have also included the logs which shows as of early this morning there was a Mr. Peabody and Sherman in the Library. It did some detections of changes. Log file server-63595843199 confirms this.

When I forced a rescan this morning it brought back all of the movies into the database. My scheduled tasks only had a scan at startup. Though I don't know why I lost movies maybe ensuring a periodic scan will keep everything in order.

Whatever this issue is related to the database of movies not keeping up has happened quite a few more times. Today for example the list below is the count of movies  in different movie catagorie between plex and emby. Plex is listed first for each

2D movies 2075 vs 2059

2D Family movies 615 vs 590

3D movies 91 vs 88

3D Family movies 85 vs 84

Classics 219 for both

Documentaries 56 vs 54

Animated action movies 60 for both

I did 3 rescans to see if emby could catch up to the plex quantities and they did not.

Hi, please update to the latest release of Emby Server, then document a specific example for us. thanks.

There was an update posted tonight so I applied that. Before the I forced a re-scan the quantities were still off. After the re-scan the quantities are now equal. I guess I'll spot check once a day to see when/if the quantities go off again and I'll pull a specific example.

Great, thanks for the update.

Ok. It occurred again today. The example noted above is the same but I'll reiterate. In my Family 3D Movies category, on PLEX I have 85 Movies. On Emby I have 84 Movies. The missing movie is Mr. Peabody and Sherman. The drive is not an issue because Emby sees the other movies on this specific drive. I played the movie on Plex to ensure that there's no issue with the movie and it played successfully. All my movies are .wtv and I reconfirmed direct play by playing in Windows Media Center on the same computer as the Plex and Emby server.  I've attached the latest log and information about this movie can be found using \\SPAREROOM\RDrive\media\3D Family\Mr Peabody And Sherman\ path. I note this because I have a 2D version of the movie as well.

Ver: 3.0.5970.0.

A summary of the count difference today. Again Plex being first.

2D movies 2075 vs 1937 (lower count vs yesterday)

2D Family movies 615 vs 575 (lower count vs yesterday)

3D movies 91 vs 88

3D Family movies 85 vs 84

Classics 219 for both

Documentaries 56 vs 54

Animated action movies 60 for both

Note: All of my drives have subdirectories that are associated with each movie category noted above. I make this note to reiterate that Emby is seeing movies across all drives and a specific drive is not the issue.

Please attach screenshots of the movie folder and it's patent folder. Thanks.

Uploaded several screenshots in the same link I previously posted. I included a screenshot from the top folder of the drive then one step deeper until I reached the specific movie folder. Also included screenshot of the folders across all of the drives that are associated with this specific movie category.

are any of the missing ones accessible in search? have you by any chance added any parental control restrictions to the account you're browsing with? have you added any physical folder path multiple times to different libraries?

Using Mr. Peabody and Sherman as my example I can only see the 2D version and not the 3D version in an emby search. I don't have multiple folder paths twice for each movie category and I checked restrictions. All of the IDs have minimally read/write/modify/list folder contents etc.

As a test I did the following: Restart emby (not my server) no change, hit clean database, then scan and now the count of movies are back to normal. The scan tool about 30 minutes to complete. This is similar to what occurred yesterday when I updated the software, clean the database, then scan. I checked Mr. Peabody and Sherman and it is now there. I checked the date added date and it is holding the date originally added November of 2014.

I added a new log if you are interested in reviewing. Ends in ...9640.txt

do you by any chance have the ability to test a clean install? what you can do is just backup your entire appdata/roaming/emby-server folder before uninstalling. thanks.

I'll try that during the week. Question: When you say backup the folders, do I just restore the folder after the install is done or just add the categories and folders as a clean restart of everything?

Posted

No keep everything clean. I mean backup just sob that you can revert later if you want
