Is this normal? i cant figure out what the quality settings does because its always get random results, i set medium quality for a season of a tv show all the episodes are 400mb files

what Emby does is makes some from 720-1280, 404-720 and  238-426 ?? why does a quality setting make soo many completely different outputs for the same setting? also when

i check the snyc page on the server and look at a individual sync the page is flashing and the quality flashes high and this also the screen flashes on the androids sync screen.

hi, i'm having a hard time picturing what you're describing. can you supply a specific example? Thanks!

for example i tell emby to sync a tv show 1000mb file to my android tablet, i set the quality to medium but i get random results sometimes 800mb some times 100mb etc and the quality is all over the place i have a feeling the quality is getting set randomly.

I ended up just using  handbrake and the files always come out as i set them.

for the flickering sync screen i will try explain

when i go to for example http://xxxxxx:8096/web/syncjob.html?id=d607534e18d4408998c8c1304394b975

if the sync is converting, the text fields sync job name, sync to, and quality are flickering looks like the page is getting updated

so what i see is all empty fields and quality is set to high even though i set it to medium i have no idea if this is causing the random quality encodes.

This bug happens on Android app sync screen as well

so right now the sync is useless i have no clue what the result will be

medium setting

-map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map -0:s -codec:v:0 libx264 -force_key_frames expr:gte(t,n_forced*5) -vf "scale=trunc(min(max(iw\,ih*dar)\,426)/2)*2:trunc(ow/dar/2)*2" -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset superfast -crf 23 -b:v 102592 -maxrate 102592 -bufsize 205184 -vsync vfr -profile:v high -level 41 -map_metadata -1 -threads 6 -codec:a:0 libmp3lame -ac 2 -ab 128000 -af "aresample=48000:async=1,volume=2" -y "/mnt/cache/sync/750f99b03c2e42bb96e3c95d51a89d72/dea3d485b5ad402bb4ef4dfd3d729114/07e7db22bc2344d197284a26a06e2b4a.mp4"

file size ended up 32mb quality is horrible

medium setting

-map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map -0:s -codec:v:0 libx264 -force_key_frames expr:gte(t,n_forced*5) -vf "scale=trunc(min(max(iw\,ih*dar)\,720)/2)*2:trunc(ow/dar/2)*2" -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset superfast -crf 23 -b:v 544280 -maxrate 544280 -bufsize 1088560 -vsync vfr -profile:v high -level 41 -map_metadata -1 -threads 6 -codec:a:0 libmp3lame -ac 2 -ab 128000 -af "aresample=48000:async=1,volume=2" -y "/mnt/cache/sync/750f99b03c2e42bb96e3c95d51a89d72/3e8280c8faf845629a621c6efd622334/83e33610a5f64393a26306441dc7983d.mp4"

file size ended up 100mb quality is okay

both are encodes of 20min tv show from 400mb file.

not sure if you understood me but both of those 2 encoding commands are what emby ran for same file even though they where set to quality medium two different results as if the quality setting is not being followed maybe the smaller version is a LOW quality setting but I only set medium so not sure whats going on.

If you need me to do some tests and provide logs i can but when i get back from vacation

Thanks
