Options for music transcoding, how to transcode whole collection?

One of the reasons I bought a premiere account was the possibility to automatically transcode my music collection. However, it seems that this task is not very flexible in Emby. or am I doing something wrong?

1. I don't find the slightest option concerning quality, bitrate, and so on, of the converted music. I add tracks to a sync job and have to hope Emby finds the best solution. Which is no option, as in some cases I have to sync to a SD card for mobile devices, and Emby cannot know the best solution.

2. I don't want to sync single artists or albums, I want to sync everything. But where can I do that?

Hi, what app are you trying to sync from? have you tried syncing a top level folder?

I'm using a Linux server, and try to sync to Android devices or using the folder sync plugin. Both the same: Options when transcoding videos, no options at all when transcoding music.

What do you mean with top level folder? I seem to have no possibility to sync from my music folder - I can sync albums, genres, artists, and so on, but not from one level higher.

try tap and hold on a top level folder, or left click and hold.

Thanks for the hint, now I found the option. Quite hidden, because when not in the top level folder, the sync options are very obvious to find, why is this different for top level folders?

I'm still missing any options for the transcoding. No bitrate setting, no output folder structure, and so on. Is this not implemented?

At the moment, no, there aren't too many options for music.

Nicely said. There is no option for audio at all ;).

Is this planned? Sounds strange, but for me the main reason for a premiere account was the possibility to sync music to different devices with different needs, not videos - these I watch at home with no transcoding needed (great interaction Emby/Kodi, btw)... From the wiki I didn't get the impression that there are no options for audio only. Should be easy to implement, file format, bitrate, maybe target directory structure?!

we actually did originally but we found that most people just want to click and sync, so we simplified it for audio. we could always bring them back if needed, but music is very simple. the only real decision here is to we convert lossless music or not. yes i suppose we could add an option for this. right now, we generally do not convert if the device can play it natively.

As for folder structure, it syncs with artist/album/song. This would be a harder option to add because it would create more work for the apps that display offline libraries. In other words, they'd have to be able to handle the structure too. Certainly never say never though if there is enough demand for it. Quality options are much more likely than folder structure though.

I have some device (in-car), where I only can sync to SD card. I use Folder Sync for this, and Emby cannot know what formats and for which amount of storage it is supposed to sync. Here it would be great to be able to give some manual settings. E.g. "if bitrate greater 128 and/or format is not MP3, then make a 128 MP3 out of it".

Concerning folder structure: Maybe it's a problem of the folder sync plugin, but I currently have a sync of my whole music collection running, and the only structure I see currently is that the albums are in subfolders. No artist folders.

You might be right about the folder structure. I didn't double check how we did it before i posted that. Yea I mean I certainly see how these options would be useful for some.

I certainly would appreciate if you could re-add further options for syncing music - maybe hidden as "expert" options or something like that.

Folder structure (or at least the quasi-standard artist/album/song) would be great, too, as some devices don't have a database function, and in this case a structured folder hierarchy gives at least some usability.
