Library scan not pulling down banners/logos

Firstly I apologize if this is in the wrong section.
I'm actually running the server on a Synology but don't believe this issue is platform related.
Its a Metadata issue.

If I move a folder into a specified Media Library location (Movies) if said folder contains previously collected metadata - in this format:
backdrop.jpg, backdrop1.jpg etc, etc

folder.jpg

movie.xml

movefile.mp4

A library re-scan will not pull down the banner, logo or fanart images.

It will create an .nfo

Library settings are to use .nfo rather than .xml, and use all of the default downloaders & fetchers. Also selected to fetch all images apart from disc.

The Library rescan is working as if I move a folder in that only contains an .mp4/.mkv & movie.xml, then all of the specified images will download.

I know I could remove all previous collected metadata (backdrop*.jpg/folder.jpg) but my reasons are this:

I have still yet to upgrade my HTPC (running WMC) to Emby, it is still running MB 2.6.
I want to get all of the backend set up working and tested completely before switching over on my main HTPC.
The WAF factor needs to be high when the switch is made (change is feared!!) so ideally i need to run metadata for both systems concurrently.

Selecting to use .nfo for Emby keeps the current movie.xml safe so MB 2.6 can still access that.
The exisiting .jpg's are used for MB 2.6, But I want to fetch banners/logos & fanart for Emby so they can co-exist.

Am I missing something or is this not possible?

I did see this thread after I posted. It seemed to get replied to at the same time I was typing out my initial post.

This does seem like a similar issue.

However I have tried using different skins and enabling banners in Emby Classic. Therefore trying to force the missing images to be pulled down.
No extra images have appeared.

But perhaps this post from Happy2Play which mentions a setting 'in Beta 3.0.5891.0, Metadata-Advanced-Images' would help to resolve this.

Hopefully so!!

you can also try refreshing a title from the detail screen in the web client using the dot menu

Thanks Luke that does seem to force the Art, Banner, Logo & Thumb images.
It still utilises the original backdrop images which is OK.

But having to 'refresh' each movie is not really ideal.

I have been playing around with some scripts today.

I'm going to try creating a temporary copy of the existing backdrop*.jpg, folder, jpg & movie.xml.

Once happy they have been copied. Delete from the original location.
Then get Emby to fetch all new images & .nfo.

Then I will copy back all the original files.

Hopefully that should do the trick.

Then once I'm ready to move over to Emby I can remove the old format images and just go with the new!

I'll post back once I've (hopefully) proved this works OK.

Yes this is by design. You have existing metadata, therefore we're using that. Your old movie.xml files probably don't have much info in them, at least not enough for us to find new images.

I know I'm actually trying to bend the metadata rules slightly by attempting to keep both front ends happy and using meta data designed for each.

Anyway now I'm home from work and have managed to do some testing I'm confident I can achieve what I want to.

I've created some scripts which are giving me the end result.

I've used robocopy to mirror the folder structure and copy the old metadata to it.

Then use a PowerShell script to delete the backdrop*.jpg, folder.jpg & movie.xml from the original folder locations.

Add the root folder to the Emby Library. The Library scan pulls down all of the images specified in the settings, logos, banners, fanart etc.

Then use robocopy again to copy the old metadata back into its original locations.

Media Browser Classic WMC is happy with all the new data & MB 2.6 is happy with all of the old data.

I've tested removing all of the old data with PowerShell and that worked OK too.

Bit long winded, but it will be worth it in the long run. Looking forward to finally making the step to Emby once and for all.

Hopefully funds should allow a Premiere subscription in the near future too :)

Thanks to Luke for posting on this and your answer to refresh each movie does pull down the extra logos, banners etc. So the functionality is within Emby to do it, so I'll mark that as the best answer. But I can achieve it with the scripts in a more efficient way.

Well done. Hopefully in time you'll like all the new apps so that you don't need to use 2.6 anymore. Keep in mind, Emby Classic for WMC is essentially MB 2.6 with added Emby features.

Yes Luke that's the plan.

Will be moving to Emby Classic WMC on my main HTPC (Win7).

Have a couple of other machines in the house with Windows 10.Hopefully get the WMC hack working on them with Emby Classic too.

Then I can also start playing with the IOS app aswell.

Happy days :)
