Emby Server 3.0.5871.0

Windows 10 pro

QNAP TS-212

I got a new pc, and now I'm trying to set up the Emby server on the new one now instead.

First off I have 2 NAS (Qnap and Lenovo) which don't appear on the network for some reason so maybe this is why Im having issues. They dont show in windows explorer under networks, but I can access both if I type in the location manually.

I turned off Windows firewall and Windows Defender to try to figure it out, still dont know why.

Anyways,

I have 3 locatons I need to add:

\\LENOVONAS\Movies\3D Movies

\\QNAPNAS\Movies

\\QNAPNAS\TV Shows

I can add all of them but the last one. It gives me an error that it cannot add. Like I said I can access \\QNAPNAS\TV Shows on the pc no problem (other then it not showing up in the network list as a drive). Also, that same location is added to the old server still and I can play shows on emby no problems.

Not sure how to troubleshoot this.

can you supply a complete log file from the time period of attempting to add it? thanks.

i thought that was the log.

Where can I find the log you needed?

same place. just repeat the test, then supply the entire log file that was modified at that time. thanks.

Try

\\QNAPNAS\TV Shows

I don't think windows will understand it with the / slashes.

oh sorry, thats what I did. Just the same as the other folders. typo. [tried both ways, both had same error]

Also I tried first with emby as a service, then turned service off and tried when running as icon. I just remember a long time ago Sonar app had an issue  adding certain folders when it was a service hoped it might make a difference with emby. didnt.

So is it working now or are you still having an issue? In the log you supplied all I saw were the / slashes and also what appeared to be some attempts to just QNAPNAS by itself.

oh, that time i must have typed it just incorrectly by mistake. I have tried typing it so many different ways to try to get it to work. It still doesnt work for me. Tried it again the correct way.

Windows and some routers can be a pain with DNS. If your NAS is on a static IP address use that instead of its name and see if that works. It would look something like \\192.168.0.xxx\SHARE NAME

I did try with the IP as well. Tried every possible way.

I entered it into windows explorer again as ip (I have before and it just opened the folder) this time it prompted me to put in a password. I put the password in and the folder opened.

Sooo.. I tried entering \\QNAPNAS\TV Shows  into emby once again, this time it added! weird.

Now it works. :)

Separate question. I will open another thread if needed.

Like I said Im recreating the server on this new pc. How do I transfer over the information that tells if I watched a show or not? I Dont want to go through every episode and marked what ones I watched and what ones I didnt

So the issue was permissions.  It is possible it will stop working again if those permissions are invalidated.

You have the Server Configuration Backup plugin or How to migrate Emby Server.

You have the Server Configuration Backup plugin or How to migrate Emby Server.

Copied over these folders:

config

plugins

data\collections

data\playlists

data\displaypreferences

data\userdata_v2

data\users

My movies have coverart and the ones that are supposed to be are marked as watched. However, my tv shows have no cover art and non are marked as watched. Did I miss a file?

You are right. Because it wasnt generating the coverart ect I deleted the location from emby and tried adding it again. Doesnt let me add it anymore! :(

So back to square one.

Why does it let me open the folder in windows, but it has permission issues in emby?

OK, so the permissions problem is only with the TV Shows and only if running as a service.

When I run as a startup app the server works perfect. Movies and TV Shows have no issues. I take it off startup, shutdown the server then start it back up as a service then TV Shows do NOT work. Movies/3D Movies works fine.

How do I fix this??

You need to look at the user account the service runs under and adjust the permissions for that user.

i just dont understand what username/password Im supposed to enter.

The TV Shows are on my Qnap NAS. So to access the files in windows explorer for example, I have to use the login to that NAS. username: admin, password: _ _. I enter it in, it works, then the next time I access the folders in windows explorer it doesnt ask me for the username/password again.

So I thought Im supposed to enter that information, however I try that and it says that the account is invalid or does not exist.. There is no admin account for windows, its for my nas. So what do I enter? I don't have any separate user accounts on this pc.

My advice, just run it from the tray icon. It's simple and easy :)

People struggle with service permissions a lot, and for that very reason part of me just wants to take the feature away entirely.
