runtimesandbox 171 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 In the dashboard, when a user is streaming something you get the thumbnail with the transcoded bar, and the how much of the media has been played bar Is it possible to also have a buffered status bar i.e how much the device has buffered of the transcoded content?
Luke 42077 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Is that really useful at the server level? We would have to make every app start reporting that information to the server in order to make this happen.
runtimesandbox 171 Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Mainly because with limited upload bandwidth, if other family members are watching something sometimes it will affect the performance of the other streams if starting another one. Being able to see how much has buffered in the dashboard gives you an idea of whether it's worth trying to stream something or not. Sometimes they tend to start something and leave it to buffer so there is the spare bandwidth, other times not
Cerothen 97 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 It would actually be an interesting idea to be able to smartly allocate bandwidth. Eg emby checks your speed and if a user ID having some issues starting a stream while another one has lots of buffered data then it could reallocate bandwidth to get the new user going and to build a buffer then it would balance out the bandwidth once the buffering is an equal amount of time on each client. 1
runtimesandbox 171 Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 This is a very interesting idea, I hadn't thought of it like that!
