storyhack 2 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I have a latest gen Fire TV box. When I first installed the emby app and connected to my server, all was well. The next day when I tried to use the app, it gave me a strange screen, almost like the login/choose user screen, but without any choosable user options. Now, every time I want to watch something, I have to go into the app settings on the fire tv and clear emby's data and cache, then start the app again and reenter my server information, which is doable, but kind of a pain. Am I doing something wrong?
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I ran into a similar issue and it went away after I reset my device to factory defaults. Removing and reinstalling emby didn't clear it.
ebr 16169 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 and reenter my server information, Why are you having to enter your server information at all? Is this a local server?
kjacques1 3 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I found that I have to hit the back button until I am out of emby. If I hit the home button then emby will not start again unless I force quit it.

If I hit the home button then emby will not start again unless I force quit it. From where? I just did that several times with no problem. Is there a particular situation in which that occurs?
kjacques1 3 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Pretty much every where. Curious if hitting the home button causes emby to close or is it still running in the background? If I hit the home button and try to reopen it, it just hangs at a blank screen or I get a spinning cursor that never opens up.
ebr 16169 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 It is still running in the background. What happens if you hit back instead? How do you have your login behavior configured?
kjacques1 3 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 If I hit the back button until I am at the fire tv home screen and then click on emby again it works fine. Login behavior is set to log my account in automatically.

MSattler 390 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 So I have an external user who has this same issue issue. Have to either wipe cache, or deleted the app and re-install it to get it to work. I wonder if it's a perhaps an issue with connectivity where the FireTV has lost network connectivity? OP, are you using a wired or wireless connection?
ebr 16169 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I'll be interested if the new beta from today improves this situation. (1.1.50).
kjacques1 3 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 No, I mean instead of trying to re-enter Emby from the regular menu item, what if you just try to "back" back into it after you hit home? I cannot back "back" into it. Once I'm at the firetv home screen that's as far back as I can go.

ebr 16169 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Any update on this? Thanks! Update on what, exactly? There were two or three things actually brought up in this thread. Are you on the current beta and what problem are you encountering?

Are you on the current beta and what problem are you encountering? Hmm the main issue I have seen with external users is that they get to this point where the app wants login credentials but everything else is blank. Typically a reinstall, and entering server info all over again get's it working again. Is it indeed because people let the player go to sleep, keep playback paused to long, just sit inside emby, and then after coming out of sleep that it communicates with the server under a session that is now invalid and closed? This happens a lot for a couple of my users.
ebr 16169 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Make sure they set the Auto logoff time to something reasonable (like an hour) and see if that helps. Do you know what, exactly, this looks like: "point where the app wants login credentials but everything else is blank"?

It looks like this: http://imgur.com/a1GhnJT As for the Auto Logoff time, is that inside the app, or for the FireTV Stick itself?
ebr 16169 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 It looks like this: http://imgur.com/a1GhnJT Okay, the error on that window is telling us what is wrong there - yes, they have lost the connection to the server. Is it not possible for them to just back out from there? As for the Auto Logoff time, is that inside the app, or for the FireTV Stick itself? In the app settings page.
MSattler 390 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Sometimes stopping the application by force does work. Most of the time they have to uninstall and reinstall in order to be able to manually enter the server name.

Most of the time they have to uninstall and reinstall in order to be able to manually enter the server name. I mean just backing out from there. Is manually entering the server how they connect to you always? Have you considered having them use Emby Connect to simplify it?
MSattler 390 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 They cannot back out from there to get to a point where they can enter the server info. Some of the users are juveniles, my 9/12 year old sons use emby to watch movies at my ex's house. I simply don't feel like creating a Forum account for them is appropriate. Hence I don't have them use it.
ebr 16169 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 What happens when they do press "back"? I'll have to simulate this situation by shutting down my server and see if there is any way the app can react better. Your kids don't even need to know the forum accounts exist and I would think that would make it much easier for them instead of having to manually enter the server. Edit: Actually, that will only work if they share a user on the server. If they use different accounts, then Emby Connect won't work for them.

It just go back to the FireTV Menu, there is no way to get to the server entry point. I would be inclined to setup accounts for my kids, if it didn't also mean setting up a new email address for them as well. That's a lot of work to go through, to work around a code bug IMHO =)
ebr 16169 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 It just go back to the FireTV Menu, there is no way to get to the server entry point. And, after going back to the Fire TV menu, what happens if you select Emby again? I would be inclined to setup accounts for my kids, if it didn't also mean setting up a new email address for them as well. That's a lot of work to go through, to work around a code bug IMHO =) I wasn't suggesting it as a way to work around this problem. I was suggesting it as an easier way for your kids to get connected. However, as I said, if they each have different accounts on the server, then Connect wouldn't work well anyway.

If the go back in it goes right back to that screen, or it just grey screens. I've seen it happen a few different times. What I do not know is if this is FireTV app only or if it happens on other Android devices. My family members use primarily FireTV Sticks. Is 1.1.49g still the latest build?
