FireTV ServerWMC Live TV Transcoding

Recommended Posts

Trying to use Live TV on the gen 1 FireTV. I was hoping it would be able to direct stream as my server definitely doesn't have the CPU to handle transcoding. However, it seems like it decided to transcode, I got about 10 seconds of video and then it died. I'm currently using serverWMC as my hdhomerun doesn't support DLNA and if Emby can't direct stream then I'll have to stick to Kodi as my front end since it can.

So my main question, is there any hope of direct streaming this video feed?

Thanks

To my knowledge ServerWMC will allow for DLNA direct streaming, however my HDHomerun model doesn't have DLNA.

Maybe my terminology is off. I'm looking to still go through Emby server when playing to the Emby app, however I want it to direct play not transcode. Will the FireTV be able to direct play a stream like the one I had attached?

I think it would if the app were aware of those characteristics before playback time.  I will need Krusy's help in answering whether or not that is possible with your exact setup.

To my understanding, for Emby to not transcode, serverwmc needs to pass media info data to Emby before the stream starts, then depending on the values in this info structure, Emby will either transcode or not transcode depending on the client capabilities.  Serverwmc passes this media info to Emby as long as dlna mode is NOT being used - which it sounds like is your case.  So serverwmc should be doing this now, but to be sure, feel free to post the serverwmc log after you start a live stream and I'll take a look.

The stream info was returned (see below).  As far as I know, that should have done it - but it should depend on the client.  If something else is needed the emby team will have to enlighten me.

Any thoughts on why it would transcode based on the media information serverWMC is providing?

Is the Level actually empty or just cut off in that display?

It does look like level is empty or missing from the log
