Stopping Kodi sleep when running initial sync

I saw this added in one of the recent addon change log.

This is one of the features I have been looking for most. Is this in beta or stable and how can i help test this for you???  :)

In both actually, if your device tends to go the sleep because of the duration of the initial sync, all you need to do is test the initial sync and see if it does still go the sleep or not. Thanks for helping out :) I found this kodi builtin... It's called inhibitidleshutdown true/false... I'm hoping to helps with keeping kodi awake (if it goes to screensaver mode, that's fine as long as Kodi is still running)

Ah that may be an issue in my setup..

I use a screensaver to logout of the current kodi profile after x period of inactivity.

Could something like this be built in to the kodi emby plugin in the future?

The screensaver plugin code is located here https://github.com/elmerohueso/xbmc.repo.elmerohueso/tree/master/script.screensaver.logoff

If the emby kodi plugin could keep the device awake / not logged out whilst it did the initial sync (or any sync?) but then allow the option of logging out of the kodi profle after x amount of time(either as a screensaver or not)? Just a thought..

Well all I set it up to do is during the sync, I toggle the option true and then false when it's over. I think this will affect what you find in the Kodi settings > system > power saving, but I'm not sure... My sync is too quick.

I have tried to test this but I don't think this applies in my situation as the screensaver still kicks in and logs me out.

Running on a raspberry Pi so I i don't know if there is a sleep option on that?

I can try and test it on a PC over this weekend and see what happens if the PC is set to sleep.

Yeah this doesn't apply to the screensaver. Look what I've found: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=250636

Maybe I can use this then? I will make you a build to test a bit later today, if you don't mind? :)

This looks very promising! More than happy to test whatever you need.

Hopefully this will solve my main issue!  :)

Thanks! :)

I will test that today / tomorrow and let you know how it goes

You could grab the latest beta version (2.2.7) from the beta repo, it includes the screensaver changes. Just let me know if it works for you or not. Otherwise I will remove it from the code if it's useless :)

Okay so here goes.

Updated to latest version of the beta addon. Reset my Kodi addon library. Made sure screensaver (Dim screen) was set to come on after 5 mins.

So far so good!

I will now try with the logoff screensaver I usually use

[Half way through an initial sync]

Okay so it seems to work

It seems to set your screensaver setting back to None. (looking again at the link above this is what it says it should do)

It logged me off again a minute ago because i changed it back to logoff which i assume breaks the way it works.

It hasn't got to the end of a sync yet, that maybe a while but I will post back with info on how the screensaver then reacts when the sync finishes.

If this does work (fingers crossed) it may be worth adding this as an option in the kodi settings rather than forcing it on for everyone. Some people may like the screensaver dimming the screen whilst a sync happens and complaining if this stops working. Just think ahead ;)

Yes, that's what the post said. Set the screensaver to None, then set back the original value when done.

This only applies during the initial sync, manual sync and repair sync (they are the ones that could take longer). The screensaver kicks in during regular usage (screensaver settings are untouched during the incremental sync).

First time i've been able to check as the sync took all night and I fell asleep.

It doesn't appear to have restored the screensaver after the inital sync ran.

I am testing again from scratch to see if it was a fluke or not and will post back

Check your Kodi log for "Toggling screensaver"

This time it appears to have been successful.

Full sync completed and screensaver is properly kicking in only after the sync is complete. Still need me to check the logs?
