I'll be honest. I'm feeling more than a little frustrated having just paid for the annual premier last week after making sure I could record series shows and such.  I'd like to use Emby instead of WMC for a basic DVR.  I've been using computer based PVRs long before MSFT took it on, so I'm not really new to it.

The problem with this latest release is that I'm finding that many of my recordings are failing.  With the limited trial time it's difficult to know if it was happening before, but it's totally unreliable now.  I find out by trying to play it and getting an error, or by going to my computer, looking at the file and seeing that it's only 256KB.  I see the recording as in progress and recently completed but the logic there is a little bit of a mystery.

I initially tried the MP4 on the fly recording which was failing often so turned that off.  This latest failure is with the .ts video with no changes so there's something else going on.  I am getting recordings for the same channels sometimes.  My house is hardwired including access to the HDHomerun Prime tuners.  I've attached the log for the latest failure, about an hour ago.

If I can't use Emby for recording series TV reliably I'd like to get my money back.  There are plenty of options to push media I've already acquired out, that's not what I need.  I'm looking to enable the DVR side of things and can go with NextPVR if this won't work for that.

Hi, the recording transcoding feature is brand new. If you're having an issue with it then you can always just turn it off and the recording should perform identically to the previous release.

Thank, maybe I wasn't clear above.  I tried the new feature but understood it's brand new.  I turned it off at the server yesterday morning and deleted and reset up the test series recording I used to make sure it wasn't checked.  The other failed recordings were set up prior to the upgrade and didn't have that checked at setup (obviously wasn't there) and not set up on the server.  Two of three recordings have failed after turning off the feature yesterday morning, so if it's related to that, there's no obvious way to undo it.  For sure nothing at the recording level.  I've also rebooted twice, as that's always a good idea.

Did I mention that I have the feature turned off as of yesterday morning... :)  For some reason my screenshot tool isn't working or I'd attach a screenshot of where the setting is unchecked and a screenshot of the NCIS show recorded with a 256KB file of type MPEG-2 TS Video.  It's right above a 4.4GB recording of the same show on the same channel.

I'm pretty positive the root issue is actually the HDHR closing the dlna stream randomly. That could be due to random signal drops or any other reason. Of course, if that's true then it's not our issue but it does certainly become our problem. That is why it happens both with and without the transcoding, it's why it does not happen for everyone, and it's why it happens both on the current release and past releases. I would always make sure your HDHR firmware is up to date. We're just going to have to update the recording process to be more resilient when this happens and re-open the stream.

Well, that's not good.  The firmware is up to date, they haven't updated it for over 6 months and I expect they probably won't.  I'm not saying it was doing that before, just that with the limited time I don't know.  Unfortunately that makes Emby about as useful as a car with three wheels.

Can I get my money back?
