Thumbnails for recorded TV

I have been using emby as WMC plugin for a long time now, but I feel it's time for an upgrade. I don't like the HDMI handshake issues that WMC has (turning tv on - blank screen) and I don't like having two different interfaces for movies/shows vs recorded TV. I am using HD Homeruns for live/recorded TV, have server WMC running and generally everything works.

I'd like to switch to using Emby on either my Nexus player or Fire Stick and I purchased both Emby versions. My problem is with the recorded TV folder. My child can't read yet and with WMC there are little thumbnail screen shots from the actual recordings, so he knows exactly what's what show and which episode. With Emby I only have a generic thumbnail for the show overview (not helpful for the kid) and then the episodes all have the same thumbnail with the individual episode description. Is there any way to get a show icon in the recorded TV folder (so he can see which show is which) and then for the actual episodes just a screen shot from the actual recording like WMC does?

I checked the emby server settings and don't see any option for this and neither did I in serverwmc. Can this be set somewhere or implemented as an option in the future?

Keep up the great work, I have been recommending emby to lots of friends (which don't care about live tv and recordings...)

Do you see different images in the web interface?

No, it's the same there. It's the blue circle with the white TV that has a play triangle inside. And then when you select a show you have thumbnails, but its the show generic one, and all episodes have the same thumbnail.

Oh, okay, that is a grouping of a particular series recording and I'm not sure we have the information available to know how to create or source an image for it.  Possibly we could use an image of one of the items inside if there is no other option.

This should be done on the server side, though.

Here are two screenshots.

For the main menu of recordings it would be great to get a thumbnail similar to what is currently being pulled for each episode (what you can see in the second screen shot)

The second screen shot shows how all episodes have the same thumbnail, if there could be the option to switch it to a way like WMC does (just a screen of a couple minutes into the actual recording), that would be awesome.

Thanks a million!

Hi,

was this resolved? I have a similar problem, all my home videos on a DLNA connected TV show the same thumbnail for all files. The web interface correctly shows the first frame of the videos as the thumbnail.

it might just be the dlna device caching previously used images. if it's correct in the web client then yes it's resolved for you.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. I have a little more information which makes this interesting. On a Sony Android TV (XBR65X930C) all files (home video and movies) show the same thumbnail (DNLA). A Sony non-Android TV in the same DNLA network (XBR65X950B) all the thumbnails show properly. Any thoughts?

Using the app in one instance and DLNA in the other?

Can you post a  picture of those two scenarios?  Thanks.

Using DLNA on both, same network, same server. The non-Android TV shows thumbnails correctly, the Android TV uses the same thumbnail for all files.

Can you post a  picture of those two scenarios?

I'll post a couple of pictures latter today when I'm home.
