Subtitles always on?

I think I have seen a post on this before, but never a final resolution

 

Sometime recently I noticed subtitles are always on when watching on emby via Roku. Every time I have to go into settings and set subtitles to none and restart the movie

 

I never changed anything so assume it is a change in emby? And advice on how to set them default off?

 

For clarity, I am talking about English language movies. I would like subtitles to pop up when parts of the movie have other languages. It always used to work like this

in the server web interface, click your user icon in the top right -> playback -> then specify your preferred default subtitle behavior.

Thanks. Wonder how I missed this setting!

 

I'll try the "smart" option for awhile and see how that works. Then "forced only" if smart does not do it

I have this same problem ... except the "*" settings on the Roku actually don't have any Subtitle options, although the subtitles are playing on the screen.

 

I can turn them on / off if I view with an ipad or the web interface ...

ROKU call them "Captions".

Hi, have you explored post #2, as well as using the in-app menu prior to playback to select the subtitles you'd like to see?
