pclausen 44 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) I'm seeing some strange inconsistencies when sorting from an Android Client vs. the Web Client. From a web client, I get this when sorting by rating descending: That's what I would expect, Shawshank, Godfather, Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, etc, all made the top 20. However, doing a sort by rating on the Nvidia Shield, I get this: Completely unexpected list of movies... Sorting by Critic's rating, I get this from the web client: Again, about what I would expect. But on the Shield, I get this: Here most of titles appear in the top 30ish on both clients, but they are not presented in the same sort order. So what gives, is the sort feature on the Android TV broken at the moment, or is something else going on? Edited February 19, 2016 by pclausen
ebr 16169 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 The terminology may be slightly inconsistent. Sorting by "Rating" in the ATV app means by the official or mpaa rating (R, PG, etc.). CriticRating sorts by the rotten tomatoes score (see your first one is 100%). There could also be a slight difference in secondary sort within the same value. The ATV app just takes whatever the default secondary sort is (probably sort name).
pclausen 44 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) Ah I see. So with the ATV app, there is no way to sort by the IMDb rating at the moment? Also, the sort on the ATV app appears to always be "descending" for all sort categories. Is there a way to flip the result like in the web client? Edited February 19, 2016 by pclausen
ebr 16169 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 It should only be descending for categories that make the most sense that way (like dates or ratings). Sorting by name is ascending. The options you see there now are the only ones that exist at this time. Trying not to create a menu with 23 options on it (see EMC) and just make it simpler by choosing what people will want most of the time. Things could always evolve in the future though.
pclausen 44 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) That makes perfect sense. I agree with the design philosophy just wanted to make sure I understood the the sort options. I'm setting up the Shield for my mother. It will be replacing a Roku 3. She always wanted additional sort options for picking movies to watch, and the Roku didn't really offer much in that regard. And the overall look and feel is also much improved on the ATV App compared to the Roku, IMO. Personally I primarily use the new Emby Theater, but with her being 82, I didn't want to have to maintain a full HTPC for her. The Shield is a great next best thing, to a full fledged HTPC. There are even a few neat features that ET doesn't have yet, like filtering by letter/genre in a vertical scroll. Edited February 19, 2016 by pclausen 1
