Resume not working

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure why this is not working, but I cannot resume any Movies or shows at all using the Emby for Kodi addon. I tried researching and it looks like this was an issue before that was supposedly resolved. My specs are below, I'm using unRaid to store and serve my media and I use path substitution in Emby to redirect the docker path to my server path. /media/Movies -> \\192.168.1.25\Media\Movies

Specs:

unRaid Docker - binhex-emby

Emby version - 3.0.5871.0

Kodi - Openelec latest stable

Skin - Aeon Nox

I have attached my log file to this post, I read through it and it looks like a pertinent section is:

I haven't even attempted to use the resume feature on multiple devices, to be honest that is the main feature I'm looking forward to getting out of Emby with Kodi - syncing resume points across multiple clients.

It's fixed in beta. I'm about to release a new stable in one or two hours that will include the fix. Thanks for your patience :)

Awesome, I was just in chat and realized that I was on a way old version. The link from the downloads page loads 1.0.4, perhaps that should be updated? I would have never realized that I was on an out of date beta, assuming the Emby download section would be up to date.

Thanks for your help, though!

Emby for Kodi has two versions, stable (1.1.62) and beta (2.1.3)

There is two repository for Kodi provided by us, the stable repo(1.0.2) which contains the stable version  of the emby for kodi add-on and the beta repository (1.0.4) which contains the beta version of our add-ons/skins. These versions are not important to you, what really matters is the emby for kodi add-on version. Hope this clarifies it.

I just tested 2.1.3 and I'm still not able to resume, I'm assuming you are releasing 2.1.4? Just wanted to clarify, appreciate your feedback.

Did you do a database reset after updating? Let me know, otherwise post your log so I can quickly have a look before releasing.

I did do a database reset after I updated to the latest beta. I get a slightly different behavior now, I actually do see the resume icon for like 2 seconds and then it goes to a check mark like it's been watched. Log attached.

Looking into it. Can you tell me how you generated the resume point? Was it from Kodi or another app?

Actually looking at your log, it seems the item you tried to play had missing runtime. This will cause it to automatically get marked as watched. If you go to the webclient, navigate to item and refresh it. It must be also missing media info.

Still not working, I just completely rebuilt my Openelec machine to start fresh. Played a file and it marks as watched, then followed your instructions and refreshed the Movie from the webclient and tried it again and still no resume.

When I'm playing it I can see in the webclient that it is direct playing and it says the elapsed time from within the webclient.

For the resume point question - I'm simply clicking on the movie again from within Kodi. Just like a normal Kodi operation, play the file for a period of time, stop it, click on it again.

Post a new log, because the runtime was missing in the last one. Thanks.

Log attached, I don't understand how runtime is missing. I don't even see that option in the metadata section, shouldn't that get pulled during my initial scan?

Yes exactly, sometimes it does happen that the probing of the file fails... therefore you get missing runtimes or codecs, etc. To force Emby to probe the file again, you just refresh the item.

I guess that would mean that it is failing for every file. I've now refreshed about 6 movies and I still get the same results.

The movie you tested in your last log is also missing it's runtime in Emby. The missing runtime will mess up with the watch status because essentially, Emby sees the position out of 0:00 so it gets automatically watched. You can probably do a refresh at the root level. Something definitively didn't work correctly in your Emby server if all your files are missing it.

Rename the offending movies adding a _ on the end of the filename.

movie (2016)/movie_(2016)_1080p_etc_.ext

This will make emby see them as new items and reimport them. If they still show up missing mediainfo there is something off about the movies.

I renamed the file adding a _ on the end and it scanned and added the movie, still no resume. All of the media info is there from what I can see, I don't see any field for runtime when I click edit. Maybe the docker is to blame?

Ok then try the following. Try creating a resume point with a title you know does not work in kodi, in the webclient. Let me know if it works. Don't forget to check your dashboard to see the runtime value.

I didn't realize there is an official docker template from Emby, I'm going to test that first to see if it works there.I had already tested the webclient and got the same watched status with no resume point.

WOW. Sorry for wasting your guys time, it was the docker. The Emby docker works great, resume is now working perfectly. It even looks a lot nicer than the other docker I was using.

Really appreciate all the feedback and willingness to work with me on this issue, part of the reason I'm a lifetime subscriber.

As Luke would say, Well done! :)

I'm going to release stable now.

Sorry, what do you mean by Docker?  I am having resume issues too.

Thanks!

Post your kodi log if you are having issues. It is possible your problem is related to something else than using Docker (which you seem to not be using). What platform are you running your emby server on?

I'm having some resume issues too. I can post a full Kodi log later if needed, but this stands out:

Oh oops, typo on my part. sorry guys. I will correct this asap. This error should only happen if you let kodi stop the file. If you manually stop the files does resume work correctly? Let me know.
