Missing Artwork After Server Upgrade Version 3.0.5870.0

Emby Server - Version 3.0.5870.0  (running under Unraid 6.1.8 docker on 128GB SSD)

Android TV - Beta (1.1.46g).

TV - HDHomeRun

Performed the Server upgrade early this morning and let the database conversion complete per release notes.  Upon completion, when I opened Emby on my Nvidia ShieldTV, I noticed the various artwork was missing or incorrect (login screen, Collections, LiveTV, etc.).   I seem to receive a gray placeholder that takes a very long time to place an image or never complete (like login screen attached image), or it would fill in other EHS artwork (longer than it did prior to the server upgrade). I cleared the cache/settings on the ShieldTV, with no success.  I stopped/re-started the Emby docker, same results.   Ran another scan media library, no luck there either.

Web access provides similar trouble for me (collections - see attached image),  so maybe this is a Server side/docker issue, but thought I would post here first.   Any logs that I can provide to troubleshoot?

I think this is a server issue of some sort.  I'm seeing it in all clients but cannot figure out under what conditions.  I thought it was a problem on my network.

if you go to the detail page of one of those titles in the web interface and refresh it, what happens then?

Posted

For me that doesn't make any difference.

It is worth noting that every single image delivered by the server is coming up blank.  This includes user images, library images backdrops - everything.  If you use a client that happens to have a local cache of images, then they show but the others are not loading at all.

This happened to me on the Fire app first and I thought my server had crashed or something so I re-started it.  But that didn't fix it.  I then brought up EMC and saw the same blank images and then brought up the new ET and saw the same thing.

Just now I figured out how to correct it on one of the apps.  Deleting the app from the device and then re-installing it brought back my images.  @@Pancho - in your case, the first thing I would try is a "clear cache" of the app on the device.  If that doesn't fix it, then try "clear data".  Finally, try uninstalling and re-installing.  I suspect the first one to work though.

So, what it looks like (anecdotally) is that, somehow, blank images were delivered and then cached by the device.

Update for you. I cleared the cache and the clear data once again to test.   Upon opening the app, I still have the missing artwork for the user accounts login screen as shown in my previous post.   Once at the main screen, the grey placeholders did populate in Android TV, but I still have artwork missing in other sections as well (Music, etc.).   As a test, I completely uninstalled the app from the Nvidia Shield, and re-installed (ver 1.1.48g).      Opened it up and still have the same missing artwork in the same locations (login screen, music, etc).

Any ideas?

does it look right in the web interface?

No it does not, I still have missing artwork in the web interface as well (cleared the cache, etc.).    I have tried this in both 32-bit versions of Chrome/Firefox and 64-bit versions as well, same result.

and what was the result of post #5?

Perhaps this is related... http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/31212-primary-images-not-being-used-on-home-view-resume/

The same thing occurs on Emby on my Android.  I cleared all the data from it and set it back up and it still occurs.

Also, I just added a new video in a movie type folder.. it grabbed all the artwork and metadata, (no thumb found), and it is blank.

Unfortunately, my web interface seems to be the worst of all.  I have just black screens for most of the sections which I cannot click on anything.   Tried it on several different computers, same result.    My WMC interface seems ok, but I do see missing artwork in the MUSIC section as well.

That is just it, I have no ability to select the detail of an item in the web interface. I literally have a black page of placeholders with nothing to click.

What happens when you right click one of those items?

If you add a thumb image for any of those placeholders.. does it show?  That has seemed to work for me... although that is not really a solution for the thousands of media that have no thumbs in my collection.

Some sections have sporadic images (ex. Movies), but right-clicking or clicking on the image doesn't do anything.   If I find an item that I can click on (and can choose the additional menu items), when I select it (to play it), I just get the spinning color cursor on a black screen.   Very puzzling.   I will continue to troubleshoot here..

@@Luke, is this a imagemagick problem or what ever Unix equivalent is.

This isn't a problem with the artwork actually missing.  It is some sort of problem with the server delivering that artwork.  It is very hard to reproduce but, once you do, it is equally hard to get rid of it.

Well in my case... the images that do not show in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Android... strangely enough show up ok on the Roku.  In most instances.. they have a poster and two backdrops is all.

The Roku probably has them cached locally.

The Roku probably has them cached locally.

The pictures I added from the Roku were from recent Movies I added yesterday... so they were not ever cached prior to opening it up and taking the pic.  Those same movies do not have images in all web browsers I tested with and Android.

I finally had time to circle back on this issue.  I updated my docker to 3.0.5871.0, but still had the same artwork issues.   As a test, I opted to rebuild my entire Emby Server DB today to see if that would help (wiped out docker file & create new along with new Emby server install).  I spent the afternoon re-adding all my Server settings and waited for all of my library tasks to complete.   I cleared out my Android TV settings & launched Emby Android TV app.   I now had all of the user account images and the main screen artwork came in quicker than it had in the past.  However, once I selected any library section that has a large number of items (Ex. Movies, Music), the missing artwork issues returned.  Exiting back to the main screen, now presented missing artwork that was there prior.  I also noticed that the 'Collections' section never populates, save a few items.

I left my app in the Movies section for 15 minutes straight to see if the artwork would populate over a longer period of time, alas no success (just Gray or Green placeholders).   It is almost like the server stalls out.  The web interface still has same problems I experienced in my first post.   I tried force stopping the Emby App and coming back in, but the same results returned.  I even stopped and restarted the new Emby docker, no luck. I confirmed there are no errors on the Unraid server NIC where the Emby Server docker runs, nor on the managed switch that everything is connected to so this is not an internal LAN issue.

I have exhausted my options here, any suggestions to resolve?

I noticed the a similar problem here. Some "primary" images shows up inside media details... but not in lists where the media appears.

This happened with half my library, haven't found a pattern yet.
