External manager ... can it be done?

​I just moved my photo collection to Emby (27,000 photos). Not hugely impressed by the performance but I think I'm asking too much from my P4, 10 year old server (0.5GB ECC ram ... not much i know ...) but that's another story. What I'm planning to do is keep using my photo manager digiKam and then use RSync to sync my local folder to my server (the Emby folder). Do you think this will cause issues with a 2 way sync (rsync -av --whole-file --delete)?

​I've checked the Emby folder and it doesn't seem like Emby is writing local files (it must be reading the exif data as it shows the data i store in the exif headers with the photo manager.
