Nathanio 35 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I have collected a random selection of processors over the last year and thinking about moving them around to get the best from them. Current setup: EmbyServer WHS2011, 8GB RAM, Xeon E3-1240 v1, ATi 5450, 256GB SSD, plethora of HDDs EmbyTV Windows 10, 8GB RAM, i5 3550S, HD2500, 128GB SSD Desktop Windows 10, 16GB RAM, i5-4570S, HD4600, 128GB SSD I have access to the following processors: Core i5-3550S Core i3-3240 Core i5-4570TE I am thinking of moving stuff around and doing the following: Change Xeon E3-1240 to an i5-3550S to get access to QuickSync transcoding in Emby Change EmbyTV to the 4570TE as its 35w TDP and has the newer HD4600 iGPU for movie playback I had considered changing the server though to the i5-4570S that is in my desktop PC to give the server the HD4600 GPU. I'm not sure what to do really! Thoughts?
Wireratt 0 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) If i were you I would use the haswell i5 in the emby server. I have the 4670k in mine. The igpu is much stronger for quik sync. I would suspect that sandy bridge xeon with HT does pretty good. Edited February 23, 2016 by Wireratt
Nathanio 35 Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 I think that's what I am going to do. However; I'm going to sell all my IVB/SB stuff and go haswell. DXO and Handbrake are quicksync enabled and I don't want to lose that functionality on my desktop. So it looks like a new i5 4xxx series will have to be purchased....
