How to configure subtitles display in Emby android app?

I'm using the latest app version at the time of this writing, and I like using subtitles, but I really dislike the way the are displayed, in particular that there is a black semi-transparent box surrounding the entire subtitles line(s).

I'd like to use a thin black outline for each letter (instead of big semi-transparent box) and perhaps also choose my preferred color and font.

Can subtitles in Emby for android be configured to that effect?

Hi, right now it is currently using the system defaults for subtitle look and feel. Perhaps in the future we'll make it configurable.

What system defaults? Are you saying Android as an OS has a default of adding a semi-transparent black box around text? I doubt it :) ... would you please allow us to at least remove that and replace it with a thin black outline on letters?

That is actually the style that google uses by default. The native player does that, google chrome does that. Chromecast does that. Other non-google browsers do that. So while I think offering customization is a good idea, I think what we have now is the best default.

All serious video players I know, Android or not (MX, VLC, MPC, etc etc) use a thin black outline on the letters by default, not a black box. A black box takes away too much from the video area ... surely you must agree. This can hardly be the best default. Would you please consider adding an option for 2px black outline on letters like MX, VLC, MPC, and others?

Roku is another example. The difference between "serious video players" and default native players, is that the native players are designed for everyone. That is a big distinction that you should not forget. I understand you do not like the default subtitles, but everyone can read them. People who have slight visual impairments are going to be more likely to be able to read them than if they did not have a background. When you are designing for everyone, those are the compromises you have to make with your default, out of box experiences.

Sure, I undersatnd. But would you please consider adding an option for 2px black outline on letters (like MX, VLC, MPC, and others)?

Yes I think it is a good idea to allow them to be customized.
