MB3 changed my descriptions and other things. :-(

hi,

after i tried to migrate my MB2 library to MB3 many of my movies have an english description.

on MB2 all movies had a german description.

 

other things i´ve seen....

 

options in MB3 (in MCE) doesn´t fit into screen on my 4:3 display

the sorting is broken. for example...the movie #9 is not anymore on top but most of the movies with now english description are top most when the have "the" at first.

image chapter extraction works since 4 days with no real effort.

 

 

how do i fix this?

you need to provide more information, such as what settings you chose, and what metadata you had before.

 

we should probably add language to the startup wizard as well.

metadata where complete for every of my >3000 movies. most of them are completed by myself.

how can i revert this? how can i force a metadata refresh in desired language?

what do you need exactly when you write "such as what settings you chose"

Your settings are correct, but the reason it touched your files is because you enabled automatic updates. I will make the help text more clear about that, and possibly move it to an advanced area. It is working as designed.

i have oblivion, i just changed my settings to dutch, manually refreshed the movie and got dutch metadata

this is not dutch. it is german. but this is not the point. i think it will be grabbed in german too.

actually i use Film Info! Organizer to get my metadata.

the ponit is. dont touch existing metadata. show for review and ask for permission before overwriting.

only overwriting will every user someday fall on his feets.

it is 2-5 hours work for you to implement this, but fixing metadata will take much longer and there will be not only a view people who run into this.

But you had automatic updates enabled. The whole point of that settting is to update your metadata as it changes on the tvdb and tmdb. It keeps them in sync. If you hadn't checked those boxes, nothing would have been overwritten. 

 

So it is working as expected.

 

The explanation of the field could be better, and has been improved for the next release.

that probably happened initially because when you install the server, you don't get to pick your language until it's too late. we've fixed this and made it a part of the startup wizard for new users. 

 

so going forward it will not replace german metadata with english - however, if you enable automatic updates your metadata will be constantly replaced, and that is by design. So don't check the box if that's not what you want.

thanks for destroying hours of work to get my metadata complete.

 

let me summarize....

 

metadata get replaced with wrong language. (i´ve set retrivial in german)

metadata replacing with your build in grabber doesn´t work.

sorting works only a bit. (name: the 6th sence sort: 6th sence displayed: the 6th sence)

playing movies over network to MB3 classic doesn´t work. (use UNC message even if i use UNC paths)

 

seems to be a long way to for the first version without ultimate MCA.

Sure, if you want, but I think i understand. I can't bring your old metadata back, but I can tell you that I don't think it will happen again. But you should uncheck those boxes if you don't want your metadata touched.

please keep in mind this example....

 

you have all your metadata from your media in your language.

now somebody from the company where you get your data makes a misstake and paste burmese data.

weeks over weeks nobody reviews the changes this guy made and your movie is all the time burmese.

can you read burmese? ok maybe you can, but do you want to have burmese descriptions to your movies?

i think not. and this is the point where a fallback would be a good thing.

automatic updates? ok but please let me review them before they are applied to my database.

right, exactly, i don't think this issue will happen again but please let me know if it does.

 

however, automatic updates is meant for people who don't mind their metadata getting replaced often. i don't plan on building a UI so that you can see each individual change and approve them one by one. i am more likely to just remove the feature instead.

you enabled saving of local metadata, so of course we're going to touch your files. the metadata we download is limited to what's available in alternate languages on the provider web site. if they're not available in German we grab the English version. so as far as i know, this works as expected. 

 

if you think there is a bug then I'm happy to help, but just coming in here, complaining and saying something doesn't work isn't helping anyone.

why does MB3 grab and overwrite things ??? this makes no sense. isn´t it up to me to decide if MB3 can uptade existing metadata?

 

sure. telling "somthing doesnt work" is not the right way.

 

i gave you hints where you can look in your code and modify it.

sorting works not realy... when i code anything i work with classes and funktions. i think you do it the same way..... now we know where to look in the code.

overwriting metadata... add a switch so a user can say overwrite all/overwrite nothing/let me decide   if i tick let me decide write all "new" metadata into a movie-temp.xml

 

network problems.... add a function to check for correctness of network settings.

 

please look. i´ve generated one new movie.xml i think all metadata are complete.

more than 3000 of these xml files are on my system and verry much of them are useless for me now.
