Neminem 1518 Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 Look into this. If you server is powered off, then what will tell your users it offline, besides a error. Redirect to another server or pc that can tell your users.

Another pc can do this, just don't enable media libraries, set that in maintenance mode ,and redirect port forwarding to that.

It's not that straight forward - I don't want to have users kicked out and have to log back in. If you just switch to "another pc" youre going to need to make sure users are synced as well.
Neminem 1518 Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 Ahh you missed the point. You switch port forwarding to the maintenance server and display the message there No need for media or watch history. Only user access. Wolla and the message about maintenances is delivered.
jcbhltz 4 Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 Does the message for maintenance display without auth? 4 minutes ago, Neminem said: Ahh you missed the point. Yeah but it's a different serverId - when a user hits that new server it's going to require login. Not a big deal on web clients but super annoying on certain apps.
Neminem 1518 Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 Not if you use the backup/restore plugin and carry over the server id.

Neminem 1518 Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 Not my problem, users need to login again and see the message. Its way better than they just error out
Q-Droid 989 Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 It's kinda weird that a down for maintenance message would require auth. Just sayin'...

Its way better than they just error out Lol fair enough but my original post was discussing this as a requirement and your reply was "ah you missed the point"..... It's important to me that when the system is down for maintenance users dont have to type their password in using a TV remote only to find out the system message is "offline for maintenance", then have to login AGAIN when its not in maintenance.

Yeah, it's about as useless for my use case, and im sure others, as just not having it at all. Could do the same thing with custom CSS/HTML and API.

You said you run two systems, this is the same idea; you run a "maintenance mode" emby server where its entire purpose is to display a message to end users without logging them out of their session.
Luke 42077 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Regarding a banner, this is going to happen in two stages. First, on the beta channel we're about to give you something quick and easy: Then later we're going to remove this in favor of a more powerful system where you can have multiple banners, filters for who will see them, the ability to dismiss them, etc. 3
embylad892746 32 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) What about for tv?? Other clients? 99% of my family and friends watch on a tv. Will custom banners show on tv apps and other clients? Will maintenance pop ups only show for users logging via web browser? If the answer to both those is yes, I might as well put my maintenance warning as a custom banner. i want to get a message to people and know 100% they saw it despite the client they use. HI, yes, all Emby apps will be getting this. Thanks.
