AAC & AC3 Streams

I am racking my brain to find a solution to this.

All my movies have 2 English streams (1) AAC 5.1 and the other (2) AC3

Now, when I install Emby Theater and load a movie it plays stream 1 of the audio in stereo only, under options of emby theater i have made sure I have it set at 5.1, as well as HDMI for audio output but still my amp see's it as stereo only. Keep in mind when I try this in Plex my amp picks it up as 5.1.

My HTPC is the server, and my data is on a NAS, I have configured the initial folder search when I installed the server on the HTPC to be \\DiskstationNAS\NAS Drive\Movie\

I have also repeated the same for path substitution also to give that a crack but either way same result.

I am able to change the audio once the movie is playing and select the (2) audio stream no issue and then magic my amp starts playing the movie audio in 5.1.

So the crux of it is, I want to move from Plex to Emby, but this is a very annoying little part I cannot solve./

Are you bitsteaming the 5.1 ch AAC? Most receivers can only decode 5.1 ch AC3 (Dolby Digital) and DTS. Some can do DTS-HD and TrueHD. Very few can do multi-channel AAC.

I have a similar setup for my movies, my first audio track is a 2-ch AAC track (for my apple devices) and the second is a 5.1-ch AC3 track. I set the AC3 track as 'default' so my HTPC plays it instead of track 1.

Thanks, yes I had it set to bitstream what should it be?

Also how do you configure your movie file to AC3 track as default without needing to re encode the entire movie again?

I assume they are MKV files.  Just use mkvtoolnix and set the audio track you want to default.

Hey, really appreciate your help guys, thanks so much.As I had a whole heap to do i ended up using MkvPropertyEditor which does it in bulk. COuldnt figure out how to do in bulk with mkvtoolnix. Got there in the end.

Now, couple more things to figure out will see if I can find in the forum here such as:

1. Video seems a little delayed when playing, not much like hundredths of a second but you can tell its not smooth, didn't see this in plex.

2. Would love to know how to get suggestions on TV Shows the "If you liked this you might like to watch this" but more so suggestion on series that arent in my library.

3. Set my Harmony 750 for the back button to be the back button and not the exit key that should be easy enough

I saw how to launch Emby from start up as i have a dedicated box for HTPC but i notice it doesnt load my AV and Server so a bit more tweaking,

Showed the wife as she has been using Plex and she prefers emby as do i, but its certainly more work out of the box that Plex. Still enjoying it.

Hi, welcome. Did you get the surround sound sorted out?

Hi Luke

Yep, changed the mkv files to set default audio track 2 which was my ac3 surround and it's working, still not sure why I had to do this but nevertheless that's figured thanks to this forum.

Still not sure about1. Video seems a little delayed when playing, not much like hundredths of a second but you can tell its not smooth, didn't see this in plex

My HTC is perpetually on with et open so when users switch to this they just login, this morning though nothing played not sure if it was a setting j changed under kids parental setting to allow for media remote or the fact I closed and re opened et.but when you clicked the play button nothing worked. Couldn't even switch users.

If you play something, then stop and play something else, do you see the same delay on the second video?
